Hey all,

Well im organizing a season in Japan over the 11/12 season and im just getting a little info from you NSers that have some experience (ie done a season there before)

I went to Niseko early this year for about 2 weeks which I loved but I am graduating at the end of this year and want to do a season before I join the daily grind...

So a few questions...

1: Niseko or Hakuba? As I understand it = Niseko more snow, Hakuba = steeper terrain? anything else I should take into account?

2: Accomodation? Whats the go with accomodation? whats the best and most cost effective way to stay for 3 - 4 months?

3: Work? Do I need close to full time work? few day here and there? what kind of work? whats the go?

Super stoked to get back there, love the country and the culture.

lets have it

Hey, my brother did a season in hakuba 2 years ago and I personally know people who own a lodge down there so I'll give you as much info as I can

Your right about Niseko vs Hakuba, but I'll put it this way; First day I arrived 1m had fallen overnight, over the course of 2 weeks around 3m fell of the lightest pow I could imagine. However the resorts in Hakuba are really strict on skiing pow as it's dangerous w/ avalanches etc, in Niseko they don't mind though. Hakuba is steep and has trees and open bowls, natural terrain, super fun avy barriers etc.

If you get a job you will get staff accom right on the mountain at happo one, you'll get paid little but they give you awesome meals and the nightlife is super cheap (and good)

At the moment the Japanese gov will only give you one working holiday visa in your life, so make sure the time is nigh

With full vs part time it depends on your financial situation and what job you end up landing

On another note I was planning a 2 month holiday in Niseko before i made plans for whistler and found this accom at a backpackers with SUPER cheap rates + season pass, cheaper the longer you stay, i forgot who it was with but just research cheap backpacker accom and you should find it, thats a great option to just go all out and ski everyday for cheap.
