so my friend has a htc phone he will give to me. i have a few questions. first can anyone give me some help on how to jailbreak it or a good tutorial? also i have verizon service can use it on verizon once i jailbreak it? what do i need to download to do that?

thanks.

I am pretty sure jail breaking only applies to Apple products. android doesn't big brother. you just need to unlock it if it is not on Verizon. Pretty sure they are different things

A. why do you need to "jailbreak" it.

B. you "root" droid phones, its similar to jail breaking an iphone.

i've rooted multiple htc droids. the program you will want to use will depend on which model you are looking to root. what phone are you working with? software version?

I'm trying to figure out the model right now. It doesn't say. And eheath sorry for not being an all knowing douche about everything in the world. I made a thread because I didnt know about it and needed help

Im confused to why you need to root it, you don't even know anything about it so why do you want to do it?

just root it using universal androot (google it) and then install applanet (also google it) which is like the cydia (kinda) of android.

He has a very valid point. If you don't have a specific goal that you're trying to accomplish by rooting your phone, then just leave it unrooted. otherwise you run the risk of bricking the thing for nothing.

Exactly.

Rooting your Android phone is nothing like jail braking an Ipod touch. When you Jail brake an ipod touch, you can put wallpapers on it, change icons, sounds, etc... all of which you can just download online. When you root an Android phone, the main thing you do is overclock it, which lets you drastically speed up your phone. Also, I don't know if you can download different things for a rooted droid, but after I messed with my OS, I made my own themes and shit.

Like whenever I turn on my phone now, the aperture science logo starts to appear, but each blade shows up one by one, and Glados says some shit.

Baller as fuck.

i want to root it so i can use it on verizon. its for at & t right now. and im just trying to figure out how to do that. sorry for the confusion and coming of dickish.

incorrect. that's exactly what you can do with a rooted droid. you can download different ROMs (think interface), delete bloatware ie all of the garbage apps that come stock, run free wireless tethering, change boot screens, run apps off of your memory card as opposed to having to store on the phone's internal memory, as well as over/under clocking your processor, etc. rooting a droid basically gives you full control of the device to do with as you please.

however, if you don't know what you're doing, and/or don't know where to look online, then rooting is pointless.

And OP - you cannot take an AT&T (gsm) phone and root it to make it work for verizon (cdma). the technology is completely different. basically, you've got a device that you can use for wifi, and as an mp3 player, but it will never work on your current service provider. sell it on ebay.

Yeah, people jailbreak iphones to be able to do things that droid phones can already do.

hmmm alright thanks for the info guys. looks like i will try to sell or trade this thing then. anyone want it?

i have one. its decent but a bit slow at times. i have not rooted mine. it runs android 2.2 (FroYo) which will let you keep some free space on the phone by moving apps over to your sd card.

lots of people have rooted theirs though and you can factory restore it if you root it and find you still dont like it and want to sell it.
