Jackson Hole backcountry guide

I am heading out to JH in February (Presidents week) and am thinking about getting a backcountryguide for a day. The site says it costs about $200.00. I have only done backcountry guide once before in St. Anton. Has anyone had any experience with this in JH? Was it well worth the $200?

Also, if anyone wants to meet up one of those days and shred for a bit and show someone from out of town some nice spots, I would really appreciate it. I've skied all over, but I was in JH about 11 years ago when I was a young kid, so I do not remember a lot about it. Thanks a lot.

I do not have skins for my skis, and the backcoutnry tour site does not say that you need them. I may get a set and take them with me anyway. I have never had the opportunity to do it.

although I probably won't be there much, how are the parks in JH? I see they have a stash. I rode the stash in killington, and it seemed to be much more like a snowboarder thing. any good jumps, features? Is it worth me bringing my park skis?

no on the park skis but the stash parks are sweet I rode by them today and all of the features are still really big.

You dont need skins or avy gear with a guide. most of the time the guide will grab extra avy gear and show you the ropes. I've never seen a guide take a client skinning, but i've also never been with every guided trips. I bet for 200 bucks you'd meet up with the guide, ski the tram all day and hit up some easily located OB from the tram. Just tellin ya what I know from my buddys dad being a guide at the mountain for over 20 years.

I am going to be heading out in about a week and a half to ski the week of 2/20. How has the snow been? Looking forward to skiing there!

1) go to TGR.com

-go into the ski/snowboard forum

2)make a thread announcing you will pay $150 per day to anyone who will let you borrow avy gear, and show you around Jhole.

3) save $50 and buy another local drinks at the mangy moose.

4)offer him 100 dollars to do step 2

Profit

Yeah I'll totally show your around the BC for 125 and let you borrow some avy gear. We can go practice in becon basin and go lap four pines, green river and rock springs. If you have avy gear then that works better.

do this!

i completely missed your post, my bad in undercutting you.

Better to have a guide who doesnt have the resort liability thing, because they tend to keep it super mellow, while a local knows spots that are safe but will push your limits.

hows jackson right now. thinking of coming down for the weekend, but missoula is supposed to get some decent snow this weekend. any thoughts.

btw i have never been to jackson too
