J Skis Vacation vs Line Sir Francis Bacon

Looking to get a lightly wider ski for some more powdery days. Ride a Kartel 98 currently and want a fun soft playful ski for when there is slightly more fresh. Wouldn’t do too much park with it but would hit simple rails occasionally. Butters all over the mountain is more the goal.

which would you guys go with?

The bacons are pretty much a full twin Sakana. The Sakana is one of my favorite skis of all time. So I would go bacon. Vacations look like a super fun ski and are noodle soft.

Wait they're as stiff as sakanas?

Not that it's the only thing the bacon's are good for, but... they are so good at tight tree powder scavenging; they're the easiest ski to pivot in soft snow I've been on and they seem to make it through low angle powder with less drag than most other skis so it opens up some low angle slopes that aren't skiable without poling or skating on less floaty skis.

That's actually crazy to hear, might have to look into it. I disliked the Whitewalker in the trees, felt like they were too long and got bucked around a lot. These are light so they're obviously gonna get bucked around more but if they're very easy to pivot it shouldn't be a problem in moguls and trees. Interesting to hear considering that they have a lot of camber

I have some J Vacation in a 172 and have used my friends bacons at 176. The vacations are noticeably softer, have more rocker in tips and tails and a deeper side cut also tad skinnier 104 compared to 107. Bacons were still lose but more stable. Probably better big mountain with the spooned out nose too. Vacations are just super fun to butter and mess around the resort with. Both aren’t great going fast and both live to pop side hits. You can feel the pop from the carbon in the vacation and the bacon with no carbon makes up for it with the core thus being stiffer. Just my take.

If you are looking for more noodly type of feel with butters around the mountain, I would go with the vacations. They are very soft but very fun, would probably do better in the park with the durability as well. That being said, the bacons are very very good all mountain. While they are not as soft as the vacations, I would say they are superior in every other regard, especially pow. They still have some of that Pollard DNA that allows for the ski to perform very well on a variety of days.

If I was in your shoes, I would buy some Bacons, plus you can find them cheaper than J's more often than not.

Dude the vacations are such a fun ski. I got a pair at the end of march and skied them every day for the remainder of the season. They did super well in the 7" pow day at the end of April. A lot of people make the vacation seem like this incredibly soft ski that has 0 stability. It did feel like that the first day that I used it. I was also used to skiing the Joyride and the Jeffery 108 which are both stiff skis. Once you get used to it though, stability isn't a problem. I had no problem hitting park citys jumps. They also are super capable on rails. 270s on, 3 swaps, or 4s out aren't much more effort than what I was used to. Feel free to shoot me a dm and I would be more than happy to tell you more. Also hmu if you want to see some vids cause there isn't much out there about them.
