J Skis The Vacation Prep

Hi Newschoolers,

I haven’t bought new skis in over 5-6 years. I’m pretty out of the loop now on what do I do with brand new skis. Finally bought some new j skis, the vacations.

And I’m looking for some advice on how to prepare the skis. Wax them? Do something with the edges? Detune?

I ski 70 park 30 all mountain. And the last thing I want to do is catch an edge on a rail day one and eat shit.

What do you guys do when you get new skis?

I would definitely wax them and detune the underfoot because you are mostly in park.

Let's go dude! You're gunna love the vacations. Make sure to give them a solid detune underfoot +2" in front/back of each binding. A wax job is never a bad idea.

Hyped, haven’t had new ski stuff in a long time. Thank you for the info!

Thanks! Got any recommendations for what the detune should be?

I would lightly Dull or round the edges to make sure your edges don’t bite when you are hitting rails.

Just rub a metal file to get rid of the factory finish on the edge, you dont need to round them or anything. They use the thickest edges in the ski industry (same width as a couple other great companies like ON3P and such), so you probably don't need to worry about edge cracks. Took me 100 days of rails on my allplays to finally start seeing some visible wear and I didn't even bother with a file lol

Damn that’s some serious durability coming from the edges.
