Will a 2.1 high school gpa and 6 months a co-owning a ski meme account work?

If I lived in Burlington I’d be qualified and able, but your posting doesn’t get into why I would want to work for you. No salary, benefits, etc.

The photo you included is frankly off putting. I see the company owner slamming a beer while 3 uneasy employees sit behind in a dingy meeting room. Not trying to flam you or anything. But just being a ski co and offering fun isn’t going to get you a long-term candidate

Oh I see, it is, my apologies. Benefits look good but if you’re serious about improving your public image you’ll have to pay more. Junior designers are making 60k a year in small markets. Not sure why I’m giving you free consulting rn but I guess I don’t want your company or the new employee to have unrealistic expectations

[tag=283469]@cool270out[/tag] Great suggestions, all the info about the job including salary and why you would want to work here is included in the original link https://jskis.com/blogs/its-just-skiing/were-hiring-a-marketing-coordinator

And please consider improving your internal assets, like photography. Maybe you don’t think the kiddos on NS need to be catered to, but we aren’t dumb. We know a legit operation from one that’s a lot less serious about our employment.

Damn, you think a company will hire someone who is too fucking lazy to click on a link?

You already blew it. Nice job.

Ahhh yes, the kind of arrogant job posting where a "qualified" applicant is judged on their past undergraduate GPA but also needs to be well removed enough from college to have significant professional experience. Realistic and professional job postings that emphasize the importance of professional experience do not nitpick about GPA, and vice versa. Beyond attaining your first entry level job out of college your undergraduate GPA is not really a selection criteria that follows your throughout your career.

Yeah pretty silly, Im sure your GPA would be overlooked if you had good skills, just seems like he's trying to filter out people who are discouraged easily by unreasonable requirements.

We've found in the past people that do well in school, also do well at their job showcasing their initiative, work ethic, persistence, attention to detail, ability to learn, giving a shit, etc Obviously if you kicked ass at your job for a number of years that begins to carry much more weight than school, but if you've got less job experience your performance at school would help prove what we'd expect to see at work.

And that is fair enough considering the job is literally being advertised on newschoolers, just pointing out how silly and unprofessional it comes across to more experienced candidates who've garnered career success without thinking about their undergraduate GPA in years.

For a coordinator level in the outdoor industry thats pretty on par, especially only requiring 2 years experience. Yeah, you could make more working for whatever random corporation, but its normal to expect a tad less working in the outdoor industry in some capacity. I'll trade an extra 15k a year to actually do work that I believe in any day.

What wage do you think would be appropriate? Because 46-55k isn't unreasonable at all for a glorified social media manager with 2 years of experience while getting paid nothing, its not like you get experience for this job making 80k a year...

Average salary for a social media coordinator: 55k a year

Average cost of living in Burlington Vermont: 21% higher than the national average

J skis offer: 46k a year (with experience and good GPA)

Like dawg not saying it would be an awful job- especially if you want to get into the industry and make a career out of it. But lets be real:

1) if I had a nice GPA and years of experience I would not accept a position that can't even pay the national average.

2) If you are a passionate skier who really wants to work in the industry J skis will 100% take advantage of that and probably start you off at 46k. So now I'm making ~16% lower than the average person in my field and on top of that I'm living in a part of the country that costs 21% more to live in than average. So really what am I actually getting out of this aside from getting to say I work at J skis?

If I had to throw a number out there? ~65k. National Average + additional cost of living = about that.

I had 4.3 In highschool when all my friends were also in high level classes and we motivated/helped each other to study and do homework. In college, I have a 3.25 because none of my friends are engineering majors and most aren't even in school at all. I've had to go at it a lot more solo while battling depression and working enough to pay for skiing each winter. I do not believe 3.25 reflects my work ethic or intelligence. GPA is also determined differently at different schools (i.e. my friend at Cal Poly took a 3 credit calculus class while mine was 4 credits. So the same grade/performance results in a different weighting toward the overall GPA. Also professors' judgements can vary a lot as well even at the same institution). Grade point average is a very unfair way to judge a person's abilities/potential in my opinion.

Trying to handle college and learning to be an independent adult at the same time is a lot and vastly different for almost everyone. I feel like few employers consider this.

While your numbers are correct, they're not very relevant, comparing a small ski company job to the national average isn't reasonable.

Your response is glaring with ignorance, but it's excusable because most college students think they know how much they and others should make. Averages are what they are, averages. Every industry is different, every state is different, sometimes CoL is a factor and sometimes it not.

Only other companies in the ski industry that would possibly pay more for a similar position would be a larger, corporate owned brand. Other brands comparable to JSkis pay less than these larger companies and the exchange is a better lifestyle and a job you're passionate about.

Plenty of people out there work way more for way less than you think.

Asking for only 2 years experience also implies it's a 'below average' position they are trying to fill. I hate using broad averages for these kind of discusions, nobody starts anything at 'average,' you start careers low and build up.

Aye dawg whatever you say- if someone with a business degree and a 3.5 college GPA wants to make less than a public school teacher while living in an expensive ski town, they’re welcome to knock themselves out.

yeah i wouldnt expect that at all

I guess it depends on circumstances. I have 3 kids and at $46k you would not be skiing.

Well this isn't a job that appeals to a single parent of 3 kids where you have to move to another town, is it?

I'm also guessing this doesn't appeal to idiots like you who lack critical thinking skills.

Didn’t say single parent, only asked if $46k is a livable salary in Vermont. That’s not going very far in today’s dollars. Learn how to read instead of making a moron comment.

Dog.. do you even have a 3.5 GPA? Your grammar is atrocious. You are lacking in the “attention to detail” department.

depends, they should have the opportunity for sure but the biggest downfall of the system is the hard-charging go-getters get paid the same as the absolute shitbirds. Unfortunately this only encourages shitbirds to remain in the system. Public education is a mess.

you guys don't get it, the real compensation is the prestige of working for a tacky ass 4 person company that sells medium quality skis for $700 with meme graphics and doesn't have salaried skiers

we want someone who works hard, plays hard bro

happy friday everyone!
