so i'm thinking about purchasing a t2i and i am getting final cut pro 7 very soon. I've used premiere pro cs4 quite a bit and it's fairly simple. My question is... Are there any complicated steps in putting hd film from the t2i into final cut? Like do I need any additional programs or anything? i've never worked with hd footage before so everything is new to me. Thanks.

From what I've seen most people use MPEG Streamclip to convert H.264 to ProRes or similar and then import into Final Cut.

you will need to convert the files. To a final cut friendly codec. Depending on how much hard drive space you may have to choose a different codecs.
Pro Ress is great but comes with a huge file size.AIC or Apple Intermediate Codec Is pretty good as well and file sizes are considerably smaller.
there is several ways to go about converting these files.
Canon EOS Final Cut Plug in.http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=3249

MPEG Streamclip (I personally use MPEG Stream Clip)http://www.squared5.com/

and Compressor.
