the insurance company that handles 80% of resorts from alberta to quebec has come up with some really dumbass ideas!

1. no pvc rails

2. no lips on jumps including big air comps

3. no jump can be under 20ft long (bad for beginner freeriders)

4. jumps must have a roller instead of a lip

this is total BS!!

why wouldn't they allow PVC, but instead allow metal. And why no jumps under 20 ft., wouldn't smaller be better in the case of an insurance company?

 
i think blue mountain isn't included in this because of the park pass thing.

at the park opening at Tremblant I was talking to one of the head park tech dudes for a while and one of the things we talked about was jumps. He was saying that they can not build any tabletops this year. they can build kickers with natural landings, but no jumps on flat ground with manmade landings.

I don't understand their reasoning at all....

Especially when talking about Tremblant's jumps. Manmade landings will be in better shape than natural ones.

Has anyone been to the Tremblant park lately? What does it look like compared to last year?

PVC would be safer wouldnt it? Its not as fast as metal. Nothing less than 20 ft sucks too. Its more dangerous the bigger the jump. That is really gay.

You just gotta tell your local mountain to do a park pass thing like blue. That's how we still have all kinds of bad ass stuff.

Everybody should come to blue to session a real park.

how the hell do you do good tricks off of a roller? pvc is much safer than steel, it is much softer than your bones (unlike steel) and cannot be made into huge, kinked, dangerous rails.

no jumps under 20ft? what the heck are they thinking? I've never seen anyone get seriously hurt off of a 5 ft jump, but have seen people be hauled away on sleds after hitting 40 ft jumps.

do any of them actually ski parks? obviously not. hope the US doesn't become like that.

that's crap...I mean I can understand that they're trying to make things safer...but these things are retarded...those are the wrong things to change

 
well in their defence.... Many people hit 10 foot tables and fly 30 feet because they didn't scope out the jump but other than that it's dumb...... everyone should follow Blue and they should creaste the same program all over Canada.

I know this was comming. at least you have a park, I mean, they don't make that much money off the things because the majority of the people are teenagers that have no money and just hang out in the park all day. So why have the park? it just costs the resort money in injury's and such... But Whistler/Blackcomb and Blue Mountain can still make anything they want because they have park pass type things that make people sign a waver that says they know the risks involved in the park. eventually every resort in Canada at least will have a similar system or loose their park.

the no lip idea sucks, but i guarantee less people will get hurt on a 50 ft. table than on a 10 ft. table. i saw so many people get hurt at treetops in gaylord michigan lastyear cuz all they had was a 10 ft. table and fudgies would fly off of it and land in the flats...and if you wanted to do a trick your only option was to clear the landing...(a big trick i mean like a flip). now i ski at boyne where they have a 50 ft. table and the jump is like 15 ft. tall so when fudgies hit it they land on top of the table a little ways past the jump. i haven't seen a sucky skier yet try to clear it. that is a good thing. plus the bigger the better for people who are good.

 
it came from my supervisor at tali while havin a butt talkin about how the park will look this year. tali's park will pretty much be screwed but there are a few loop holes in the policy. the big air hit will have a large extension that has a slight roll in it. it's ok for snowboarders cuz they can ollie high on rolls where as skiers can't go as high.

we've got a few ideas around this new shit though. it might end up being something like blue but different. stay tuned

Could this be why Blackcomb's intermediate park has like 7 hip jumps but no tables? Very interestin. I just think it's crappy that I have to show my park pass in order to hit a table top no matter what the size.

 
they should do what blue did: make a pass cuz then they have to force them to give there rights away so that they wont get sued. i know at first i thought it was dumb but its better than that shit

Tremblant aren't gong to have tables, but they are going to have big hump type things.... with a lip at the start, then a big roler after it, so that you never get more than like 6 feet off the ground - cuz it follows you up then back down to the landing - so that it is impossible to hit the knoll on the thing.... um impossble to under air it....

you dont even have to make a huge jump. alot of little kids here are afraid of a 10ish foot table here and just catch a little air off the side.

how true it is. But there inlies the mentality that is not seen by most ski resorts. On the other hand you can still focker yourself pretty good fucking up on a downhill landing of a 110 footer. but yes, caseing is most definately safer than over shooting.

 
It depends, obviously Id rather over shoot a 10 footer the come up 45ft short on a 50ft table. At one jump at my hill you have to overshoot the landing to do something fun, usually jibbers have no problem doin that, I could absorb that landing without any pain, but obviously beginners would suffer a little more.

I hate liability. liability is the biggest load ofshit of all time. It pisses me off becaseu it is so dumb. If i want to go and hurt myself trying something cool, why should somebody stop me if I promise i wont sue them. Its my body, and if I want to fuck myself over trying a switch double lincoln loop, then why does someone, who I dont even know, who I told iwont sue, care?? I wouldnt care If I was the owner.

What thats bullshit, you can't get any air on that jump! Now if i want to hit a jump i'm going to have to do it in my bakyard where i can make the jump have kick to it.

Are they going to screw up the pipe too, they'd better not screw with my pipe or i'm going to be extremely pissed off.

 
well with drugs, when you overdose, you arent paying for the treatment after. its the taxpayers that pay for the hospital bill, and everything else. my dad was a cop and he explained that all to me today. its like $1500 everytime someone ODs. and one single person ODs every 2nd day or so. so thats like 15 ODs a month, times 12 months. thats a shitload of money for one person. and then theres a gazillion ppl that do it.

this doesnt have to do with parks but it does have to do with insurance. today we went on a school ski trip and here were the new rules:

stay on marked runs

stay on groomed runs

no skiing trees even if they are in the top 2

no jumping

no 'hot dogging'

no skiing the park

MUST were a CSA approved helmet for skiing or snowboarding

its getting quite gay if you ask me

seems like some insurance stuff is kind of getting out of hand. i talked to a couple people at my hill who have gone to chamonix and they are really good skiers and they were explaining to me that it was ski where ever you want and thye would have flags above cliffs htat were big enough that you would die on impact. and they only saw like 4-6 patrollers the entire week they were there. that seems dangerous but still let us decide that will keep the bad people from coming beucase they would be intimadated

the goddam blue park at whistler sucks ass. they've got about 8 bizillion hip or spine or whatever u wanna cal them jumps, and a few rollers. i was there on the weekend, and took 2 runs through it, and hurt myself on both times after landing in flats. i guess it's kinda my own fault for forgetting to bring along my helmet.. but ya. 7 stitches on my eyelid, and 2 bruised heels = lotsa fun.

 
Yeah landing flat on those hips in the blue park is not a good experience. Most of the time it's ok but when the light is just a little flat everyone tends to misjudge the angles. The Highest Level park is sick though, and it's never been crowded when I've been there.

 
Yeah, this whole liability ghetto ios getting out of hand. Basically, lawyers control this nation, and whatever they want done, gets done.

Also, how do ski resorts get sued anyways? Does the lift ticket and teh back of it and the seasonspass agreement not count as a legal ocument? If not, why do they bother having it?
