Is there such thing as "fake skis"

This question probably sounds pretty dumb but I'll ask it anyways. I was looking around at skis and saw pipe cleaners for $200 on eBay. I've seen al dentes for like $250 too and just some skis that are really nice and brand new for really cheap. It sounds too good to be true, which is why I'm wondering if they're fake or something.

the usual case with cheap skis is due to blemishes etc.. structurally fine, but they have some flaw in appearance. They usually discount these.

I'm not sure if this is relevant to your question, but Sports Authority is always carrying some sketchy-ass skis that I've never heard of, and from very reputable brands... always wondered about those

those are usually SMU (special make up) skis that are made specifically for the retailer. lots of companies do it for big box sports stores because they order a ton of product for them. usually the ski is exactly the same as another in the line up but with a different top sheet and name.

so they are legit skis from the manufacturers. just different names, thats all

yup. K2 makes the "sabre" for Sports Authority and others while core ski shops carry the "AMP" line like the K2 76, 76ti, etc..
