Is the Fs700 worth keeping?

I just recently bought a Fs700r early this summer and I love everything I've shot with it so far. The avchd is kinda a bitch to deal with but nothing too bad. The main reason I bought it was for 1080 240fps and the built in NDs (which are hella helpful) but it's kind of a pain in the ass to lug around, and it's a bitch and a half to fly on my glidecam. I'm debating whether I should just keep it, or if I should sell it and get a used A7s/A7sii or a a6000 series with a speedbooster. I want to get an A7s but 3/5 of my lenses are apsc and I don't really want to sell them and get the ff equivalents. I mostly shoot motocross/skiing/ and a few music videos here and there. Let me know what you guys think I should do, cuz I'm hella torn rn

Keep it and get Odyssey 7Q for your fs700. You can find them used for not too bad. Most killer setup out there right now.

I'm also debating on doing that. But like I mentioned up there, I kinda want something more portable. If I got a 7Q, the results would be stunning and my rig would look intimidating as fuck, but it'd be even more of a pain in the ass to lug around, and then using a glidecam would actually be impossible

Ya you would need a ronin or you can getaway with a glidecam hd400. I have an fs700 and my dream setup is to have odyssey 7Q, though Ive seen it done on a glidecam. Need an hd400 and some endurance hahaha.

Sell that thing to me for like $1000 ;)

Why is avchd a bitch? What are you using to edit? I loved using the fs700 whenever I used it, but i used a fs100 for years too so Im a big fan of the series.

I use premiere to edit. Avchd isn't really a problem right now because I edit on a PC, but it would give me some bullshit about it not being the correct format and stuff on my mac. Not really sure what it was, I could just click cancel and my footage would show up and be able to edit, I'd just have to click cancel on like 2 boxes every time I imported a clip.

Hmm thats odd, I've used avchd for years on both mac and windows with zero issues. How are you "importing" your clips?

I transfer the files to a folder on my desktop, and then import the folder into a footage bin in premiere. Like I said, there isn't any problems for me on PC (which is what I use 99% of the time), only on mac

Hmm, i did the same thing on both and never had the issue you speak of, I used an fs700 with mac all the time too, strange.

Yeah it was really weird. Never had any issues exporting or anything like that though.

Keep it. Ditch the glidecam and learn how to follow cam like a man. Also, I'm not sure what you're doing wrong but AVCHD is the easiest format you will ever come across. I take it you never had to deal with P2 haha

A7Sii is an amazing alternative for a smaller rig but you will seriously miss the NDs and the higher frame rates.

oh kelly you're so silly ;)

Haha just saying. Sub FS7/FS5 I would go fs700 still. That thing is heavy enough not to need any stabilization if you’re confident enough. But hey, I’m a sucker for the classic raw skate aesthetic.

I agree with getting an odyssey. With those beefed up recording formats the 700 still holds up to just about anything in the price range. Fuck skiing, shoot a feature on that it'll look great

Unless you want to spend a little extra $ to get the FS5 or 7 just stick with your fs700. I've been using my fs700 for years now. It's been through hell and back and still holds up. I never did the 7Q update and up until recently, clients haven't cared much that I don't offer 4k.

Since you already have the fs700 just keep it. It's better for motocross than the A7s and still the most common camera you'll see at the tracks. I've been shooting motocross professionally for years and if that's your goal or what you're currently doing...just keep it.

As for you import problem into premiere... Just about everyone I know importing footage from their fs700 has the same problem. I've tried to figure it out but since it doesn't seem to have any affect on the quality of the footage and all the info is there, I stopped worrying about.
