Dells are the shit! I'm on a Dell latitude c610 right now. (don't get one, though, its old technology)

I use a dell inspiron E1505 for games, music, internet, and pretty much everything. Just make sure you get 2 gigabytes of RAM if your going to use vista and you should be fine.

The only possible drawback is that dell might still be back ordered on inspirons. Many of my friends who ordered theirs late had their orders delayed considerably.

i'm on an inspiron 6000 right now, and in the last 2 years its crashed once to the point of losing everything. other than that though, i suppose i have no complaints. if i had to make the decision again though, i'd definitely go with a mac
