Is peer pressure the best way to learn?

I mean, i've always learned new things through peer pressue. By myself, I would never man up to do something, and with friends egging you on and doing crazy shit, you just have to to keep up. agree?

I don't consider it peer pressure... It's more motivation. Especially when you ski with someone who is much better than you, it motivates you to try new stuff... and you can always ask for advice since they know what they're doing.

definitely not the safest, but peer pressure helps a lot when you need that extra confidence to try a new trick

peer pressure=confidence confidence=good
yeah man its a great way to learn unless its something reallllly dumb peer pressure works well.
"yo you got this dude don't be a bitch"

It can be. More like "dude it's not sketchy you can do it" than "fuck you if you don't do it you're a pussy". Shredding with a crew constantly feeding off eachother and pushing eachother more is definitely the best. But on pow days it's time to just be one with nature, you know? Like I don't want a huge crew on those days. Just one or two people.

the best things I have done on skis has actually been when I didn't think anyone was watching...

Yeah, it is a pretty easy way for me to learn. I am usually pushing myself though. I dropped the biggest cliff last year and did it basically at my own will, I am constantly pushing myself in the powder.

no, i never do anything anyone tells me, trick wise, i do everything at my own pase, if you dont want to do it then dont

i just set goals, and i ike to get them done, it makes me happy.

or i love the feeling where u mention something, or dont tell anyone and go for a trick and you KNOW your going for it. best feeling ever

its great at times but then your friends start to get really really annoying and all you want to do is stay with the tricks you know and have a good time

YES!

and peer pressure has resulted in a concussion and memory loss (i didn't remember the first half of the day, i wanted to go and eat lunch but everyone told me i already had haha)

I can't stand when people pressure me to try something, I find I learn and progress most when I'm just with a bunch of friends having fun and goofing off.

yeah i definatly hate riding with people that give you "peer pressure" instead of "motivation" I would much rather ride with people that are like "you got this man! i know you can do it!" than "just shut up and man up and stop being a pussy!"

If its my friends telling me to do something that i dont feel safe doing, i wont do it. Its only when i feel safe and im feeling the trick that i ever land anything anyway.

whatever man, i wasn't even claiming - just personal achievements that I was super stoked on...

not like I said "I stomped a triple cork when there was no one else in the park", or something stupid like that.

haha for real there was like this 17 foot drop and noone would do it so i said ill hit it. i stood at the top and they all were like come on you pussy (even though i was the only one who said i would do it) after about 30 seconds of hearing that i just went for it and stomped it. its like my posses favorit drop now. peer pressure is an awesome thing haha.

fo sho. i remember at windells twall gettin off the rope tow skiin over to me and tellin me (and i quote) "now you gotta do it". that was more pressure than all my buds callin me a pussy at once haha.

No, because then you will not learn at your own pace, which could sacrifice your safety and lead to injury. You could do a trick that you're obviously not prepared enough to do, botch it, and end your season. Bad idea.

depends on what you mean by peer pressure. one of my best friends who i ride with will pressure me, but only on things he knows damn well i can do. for example he wouldnt pressure me to go try a double flip right now, but something pushing me just a little bit harder. there its good. but the pressure that makes you try shit well beyond your level is awful, and is going to lead to serious injury when you get in over your hed.

sometimes people aren't committed to the trick when they get talked into it. be sure that you are committed to hucking it before you are convinced to do it is my best advice.

hell yea it does
what really sucks is when your one of those top people... cause then theres noone really to push you...

I think it works best when I think of something that I would like to try because I think I could do it, but i just cant get myself to nut up and try it the first time. Positive pressure helps me get the first one out of the way then i can keep trying it after i realize the first wreck wasnt so bad

definately! with mates pushing you and encouraging you, it gives you confidence and no doubt progression will come

skiing with friends will def make u progress more.. not only will they be encouraging you, but also if u fall and hurt yourself trying somehting new than they will be there to help u so its safer

Yea I wouldn't call it peer pressure but definitely it helps step it up. When I ride with my friends, everyone just wants to show the other one up and go bigger or faster. It makes my skiing progress at a much higher speed.

I disagree. if you are only doing something to match or show off to you buddy that is the wrong reason.

seeing your friend do something and then you want to try it as well is a whole different story, thats being inspired.

Don't let anyone push you into anything you aren't ready for.

"It can be. More like "dude it's not sketchy you can do it" than "fuck you if you don't do it you're a pussy". Shredding with a crew constantly feeding off eachother and pushing eachother more is definitely the best."
so true. especially when you're the only girl. the guys bully you into it!

peer pressure usually helps with me. especially if there someone whos about the same level as me maybe better, we both push eachother and learn shit. but if its someone whos way better than me and is putting way more pressure on me to do things that are way outta my reach, that doesnt help.
