Is owen dahlberg the best filmer rn

Sunset session from Magma I is one of the most amazingly shot segments ever put into a ski movie. Owen is a special talent, I hope he still wants to film skiing after he eventually moves on to cinematography work that actually pays him for that talent.

i disagree, i think hoblitzelle is currently on top since everyone’s kind of copying his style. i don’t really see anyone jacking osap’s style out here.

What is his style and who is jacking it?

Don't get me wrong I'm all about jacking it...

idk how to really describe the style but almost every edit coming out of hyland right now is 90% inspired by zootspace videos.

a 16 year old kid just bought an hvx to film his homies, who is he most likely gonna look at for inspiration?

Just because it's shot on an old camera doesn't make it his style. Also shooting on a VX or HVX with fisheye/long lens combo goes way back to the 90's in skateboarding. It's not a new thing and tons of filmers over the last 30 years have been perfecting and modifying that formula for what they like.

This isn't to hate on anyone, I enjoy flavors from everyone. I bring this up to point out that There's a ton of history behind the style of film that something like zootspace is and there's a ton of really cool shit everyone should watch from back in the day.

i wasn’t really saying that using a p2 camera is a certain style but after zootspace came out everyone’s suddenly trying to buy one. I think it’s more his editing style i see people always taking inspiration from which is usually a lot of kids just starting out filming. I mean look at the pondycrew and hvxmob videos from hyland lol.

lol yeah I hear you. That's just a classic case of "I like this person and now I'm going to start the activity they do and try and copy how they do it.

I’ve been trying to buy a VX for like 6 years does this make me a zootspace hype boy?

makes you a carmazzi hype boy i guess. no one really uses vx cause they kind of suck ass without the mk1 fish which go for $3000+

I grew up skateboarding when that camera was all the rage and I just love the look and sound, it’s very raw and that has always been my approach so to speak. Definitely why I haven’t bought one lmaoooo

buying a vx1000 right now is like buying a clapped used truck it’s just not worth it

yes

Owen made three full length movies in 2020, and all of them had a very different vibe and style

I think color editing plays a huge part in Oliver’s style

[tag=161892]@j.benziger[/tag] , people don't realize how hard it is to film with glidecam and don't appreciate it as much. Not hating but it doesn't take that much skill to post up and use a servo zoom to enunciate a trick. Trying to haul ass to keep up with the rider, keep them in frame/medium shot and not wobbly is difficult af. Just my opinion. Ryan Braun from simple blowing peoples mind revolutionizing skiing gimbal work.

Thanks, man I appreciate it! Ryan Braun was the goat definitely an inspo. 5 years ago everybody was using glidecam, but now not many people do which makes it a bit unique!
