Is NHS worth it?

I'm thinking about applying to NHS for my Junior year next year, but it just doesn't sound worth it. I'm fairly positive that I could get in (I don't have many service hours), but it just seems like it would take a ton of time and not have many benefits.

Anybody in it and have some insight on it?
 
at my school with a NHS card you can order take-out food for lunch, leave school if you have free periods, and the card counts as a hall pass. Soo it is worth it for me. I don't know if there are differences between school districts.
 
Do it. It's just another thing to put on the college app. For me, it takes up 30 min of my time once a month.
 
It's 20 hours/ semester for the one at my school, so it sounds like kinda a lot of time. there's a bunch of meetings too, and if you don't go, you get kicked out.
 
defiantly worth applying. You hardly do anything and it looks great to colleges. I know that sounds weird but it's pretty much how the NHS works. Good luck buddy
 
Colleges love seeing NHS on applications. It shows that you are active in your school community, do volunteer work, and you're a good enough kid to be accepted. It's not that much work. and you could use something fun for volunteer work. For me, I go once a week to teach an hour long class that teaches mentally disabled people to play tennis. It's super easy and fun, and it's good for college.
 
dont you need 60 hours? i wish i had enough in freshman year. now i have 104 hours but i live in canada idk if i can still apply. i sent out all my applications anyways
 
Looks really good, especially if you are in a public school! If you are then service hours may be hard to do but find something fun and enjoyable. At my catholic school we already have hours that are required but I am in German Honors Society. Definetely helps apps!
 
Oh right I was just talking about the meetings. But 20 hours/semester is really high. We do 5 hours of community service a quarter so thats half of what you have. Also, the hours are pretty much optional because no one ever gets kicked out, and the person in charge of NHS simply has to send in a confirmation of hours for the group as a whole (instead of individuals) to the charter, so people never get singled out. Pretty easy
 
yeah i was kind of wondering the same thing, Idk though, seems like just another thing to waste time on... if I could use the community service hours I use for lettering in my sports, in NHS, then maybe i'll do it
