Is Jackson Hole worth 3 days?

The easy answer is yes, but is it really worth skiing 3 days in a row? I am planning a trip out to Jackson, no car so I won't be able to go to Targhee unless I buy a bus pass.

Basically planning on flying in to Jackson, staying at the hostel in Teton Village and skiing 2 days and leaving on the following morning. Something keeps telling me before I commit to sign up for 3 days instead of 2. Coming from skiing in SLC area I am spoiled with the amount of ski areas and I just get this feeling that Jackson could "ski small" and leave me desiring new terrain on the 3rd day.

What should I do? Convince me of something.

Plus I don't have any weed hook-ups in Jackson and you guys know I can't part too long with Mary before things get scary. Shit will start lookin like my avatar.

Background info - Paying for my airfare with miles. Airfare costs literally $550 at best (up to $730 at worse) if I try and compare miles to airfare. I also feel if I don't spend a couple days (like 3 days) there I will be just wasting my miles as I spent so much on miles just to spend like 48 hours in a location. Not concerned with park, but the other side is like hey, no smoke......small village......one ski area.....no car......and i could be working those other days (to afford my next trip)

That is true, and I have played my vacations that way in the past. We're talking like 8-9 day trips to the land of Pow (SLC). Although my last trip out there we had some snow like an 8 inch storm, but I was in the wrong place at the wrong time (I was in Park City skiing dust on crust). The snowfall never kept up and people were tracking it out faster then it would accumulate. Headed to LCC/BCC next day and just had to work a lot to get it. I was used to lazier Utah trips where the snow came to me.

Then I said fuck that idea......the only way to get a storm is luck or chasing them. So I kind of conceded that I will have to rely on luck or chase the storm as I have taken pretty lengthy vacations before. My job also right now has me on a "sorta short leash" as we don't have the extra people to cover me while I am gone. Basically if I leave on Saturday I am looking at missing 2 days of work (2 days of skiing, 4 day trip), or 3 days of skiing (5 day trip) and missing 3 days of work.

You feel that you might get bored of a resort after 3 days? At Jackson Hole?

Damn. I guess the East sucks more than I originally thought.

i think as long as youre going you might as well stay a bit longer and get your money's worth. and if you need a bag just hey mister, ive done it just about everywhere ive gone

I could spend a season lapping the lift served and sidecountry at Jackson and still not be bored or desiring new terrain.

Another good one might be is Targhee even worth the trip? Hear the terrain is a little more laid back (would you say Park City style?), but they get more snow and less crowds on the flip side.

ive been to targhee and jackson. jackson can be endless fun targhee is like 1 day of fun but imo targhee isnt worth it they have 1 wall of cliffs and that about all.. stick to jackson

this. I've been skiing the same hill for the past 16 years, 3 days at Jackson Hole would come nowhere near boring me

K I have decided that it is definitely a better use of my miles to hit up jackson for 5 days, 3 days skiing. First world problems are nearly solved.

Now I just have to decide if I want to spend $91/nt for a private room at the hostel, $36/nt for a bunk (risk my tablet, notebook, digital camera, gopro, and hd camera being stolen), or this place for about $156/nt after taxes.

With free airfare (first class is about $1400 r/t here) I am getting away on this trip on basically the lodging, transportation to/from teton village, and food, and lift tickets.

hopefully this is a troll thread and you arent flying to jhole from slc.

anyway, anytime ive gone to jackson ive stayed in the town of jackson at the super 8 for like 40 a night. u can drive in or take the bus from town. targhee really aint worth checkin out.

?? if its open peaked has some gnarly lines to ski, the cliff band off sacajewea has a bunch of fun minigolf, the parking lot pillows are pretty rad, and you can stay at slopeside with tickets for under $100 per night. The mountain as a whole is pretty meh though. just gotta pick your spots and hope to god the fog doesnt roll in.

I am thinking that the logistics of my trip doesn't permit a targhee run unless I can "ski bum across" the pass. Vehicles are $$$ in Jackson Hole. But I am looking at the lonely looking Teton Village and wondering to myself if I want to spend 4 evenings in the Mangy Moose or if I want to get a vehicle and actually head to Jackson Hole itself.

Decisions....decisions......

and I just seen the stats for Targhee. 8k base vs Jackson's 6200ft base is convincing. I bet that Targhee always has better snow then Jackson.

That in and of itself could be a reason to make sure to head to Targhee one day.

Why would you compare base elevation and not peak?. Jackson's peak is 600 feet higher in elevation than Targhee. Do you not plan on skiing outside of the parking lot?

If your there at the right time you will never wanna leave. And don't worry, the green eagle is easy to find in Jackson. You just have to know where to look.

I'm sorry. I'm going to come off as a massive bitch. (I am being somewhat unserious... so don't take offense.)

You might get BORED at Jackson Hole, a mountain you've never been to? That's funny, because Seth Morrison probably wouldn't get bored skiing an entire season there. IT'S FUCKING JACKSON HOLE. Second of all, the only resorts in SLC that you can use the same pass at are Snowbird/Brighton... so unless you spent $5,000 on multiple season passes, the SLC area HARDLY spoils anyone. I have the epic pass, unlimited to 7 mountains, a Copper/Winter Park pass, and a college pass to JH. I am the definition of spoiled, and I would NEVERRRRRRRRR get sick of skiing Jackson. EVER. Even if it was the only mountain I could ski my entire life.

I just had to get that out... cuz some people lose sight of how blessed they are. If you're getting bored skiing mountains like JH, maybe you need to venture to other hobbies... like getting in one of those flying squirrel suits of something.

On a more friendly note, have an awesome trip and I hope you get mad freshies. If you get bored, go fuck yourself. Hopefully you won't get sick of one penis in your entire life. (That was said in the most jokingly way possible... I lol'd.)

targhee gets consistently more snow than jhole, and they consistently under report their overnight totals jsut to keep the jackson crowd away. i have skied knee deep "4inch overnight" pow days at targhee.

Out of the 10 days i have skied targhee, 3 have been legit 10+inch pow days. But the fog can make it unskiable at times. Like im not joking, about the fog, it gets way, way gnarlier than anywhere else ive ever been.

going for a day or two would be perfect, because frankly you can get bored of the area quickly especially if the peaked/sacajewea cliffs area is closed for avy danger.

Targhee isn't steep enough for the amount of snow it gets. There is steep terrain in the side country, but you have to work for it.

And regarding your quote above, absolutely not true. When the top is closed Apres Vous if fucking durty. The best cliffy tree skiing I have ever done.

why the fuck is a hostel that expensive, all the hostels in the US i've stayed at are $20 or less a night. also, if you're worried about stuff getting stolen (which is a very reasonable worry at a hostel) just don't bring that expensive stuff

Heh.

I know what you mean, it will be awesome. I have a little bit of ADHD for skiing, and by that I mean I rarely hit-up the same location 2x in a row. Something about switching it up....I gotta do A B A not A A B. If A and B were different ski areas.

But I found a bus pass for $90 that includes lift to Targhee and I think I will try that one day.

huh? the only cliffs at targhee are on peaked...where i mentioned the good minigolf. And the top of peaked is inbounds, steep, and really gnarly.

where is this cliffy tree skiing area you speak of.

Haha. I made up my mind I have to ski Targhee. Videos on youtube make it seem like "is anyone else even skiing here?". Fog is a problem eh? I wonder what geographic features make this area so fog prone.

$90 bus pass includes lift ticket and thats a wicked deal.

So first day at Jackson, second day Targhee, third day Jackson.

$36.61/nt bunk$90/nt private.

Given the risk of getting my notebook or any camera ganked I don't want to necessarily have shared living spaces. Lock and key for me.

I know ya might feel that stuff may not be needed, but I do like to bring my my laptop with me to offload my videos on to.
