What do you guys think about the NFL trying to change the Washington Redskins' name? They want Renegades, Warriors, or Griffins

My school mascot used to be the Redskins and they ended up changing it without any student say.. which was a bunch of bullshit

Obama is all for not changing the name.. dudes a G

90% of Indians don't find the name offensive... so what the fucks the deal

My high school changed from the Redskins to the Red Storm 7 years ago or so. It was that or the Red Lobsters. My town sucks.

truly doesn't surprise me that he doesn't support it... he can't really he would get some much shit

I didn't even know that cuse wasn't the orange man until sometime in the last year.

I don't really care. I would rather have had the red storm for high school. Our name sucked.

If I was president all I'd care about was sports teams and make them sick. Bring it back to gladiator days where anything goes.

At my school it's the Redmen and in our gym we have numerous murals of a native man with a fucking massive nose...come at us.

They also do alot for the Seminole community. It used to be they had an actual Seminole come out in the pregame with the horse. But now they dont keep that up and I think its just some student.

it's funny that people finally want to give a shit about native americans when this country was built off of abusing/neglecting them.

Is he heavily affiliated with the wu tang clan?

In all seriousness though i think the only offensive one is the "savages". It obviously has a negative connotation. The rest are okay though

I think it's funny when Obama says 4 sentences about something that almost no thought needs to be put into to form a coherent opinion people get angry and say he needs to get back to work. Fox has made a career out of it.

My favorite is when he opened up a press conference with one line about thanking the Red Sox for sending Youkillis to Chicago. My facebook feed went nuts

Sports teams changing their names has happened plenty of times in the past and it still occurs for various reasons...

why the fuck do you kids care so much? Oh that's right, it has to do with racial equality and you cracker dumb asses always get worked up over it, even if it's insignificant bullshit like a team name changing.

I'm fine with a name change as long as it is chosen in a fair and democratic way. My school did not take students ideas into affect

I'm gonna be real fuckin pissed off if we aren't the Redskins anymore.

When did the NFL turn into a pussy league where you can only hit people in a 3inch radius, and get butthurt over each other's names.

every time I go to a game there are people holding up Cleveland Caucasian signs with a "redneck" mascot and yet none of them are native Americans.

I understand what you are saying. All I'm saying that is if actually takes action to try to get the name to change then we would have a problem.

An example would be the college football playoff that he proposed. He said, "“I'm going to throw my weight around a little bit. I think it's the right thing to do.”

I'm all for the man saying he wants college football playoffs. That's cool. But actually taking the time and resources to make that happen? I think he has more important things to focus on.

I can understand that but I also think you're overestimating the amount of time and effort he or someone in his administration would be putting into it.

If they decided to actually get involved they outsource it to a group who does this kind thing and his involvement would most likely be in name only

Everybody wants to be a victim and get all offended, even if they want to be offended on the behalf of others. The name stays, fuck the pussies

ehh yeah I guess that's true. I guess they would still have to pay someone to do it though. And it's kind of abusing your powers, and pointless (in reference to the redskins name change). People said it wasn't offensive so why worry about it. I personally am a Redskins fan, born and raised, and I would hate to see the name change. It just wouldn't be right.

Now I do have to say that the concept for the theoretical "Washington Warriors" was pretty cool.

However if the Raiders tried to change their name I would burn shit so I understand that too

Are you fucking serious? It's a HS sports team. You wont give a shit in 4 years.

There's a reason why schools only allow you stupid little retards to vote on prom kings and queens...

because you're all stupid little retards with stupid fucking ideas.

It's all nice and thoughtful to change other sport teams names until it's your team, then shit gets real.

It is an extremely small number of people. And there are Native Americans that are ok with it and then there are some Native Americans that would be Mad if they changed the names. How do you respect the Native Americans that want the name changed and the Native Americans that don't want it changed?

"“As a supporter of President Obama, I am sure the President is not aware that in the highly respected independent Annenberg Institute poll (taken in 2004) with a national sample of Native Americans, 9 out of 10 Native Americans said they were not bothered by the name the ‘Washington Redskins.’

Indian Chief said this:

“I think that first of all, you have to make a decision whether you consider it offensive or not, and frankly, the members of my tribe, the vast majority, don’t find it offensive,” Green said. “I’ve been a Redskins fan for years and to be honest with you, I would be offended if they did change it.”

Did you not read the first quote...

9 out of 10 said they don't care. Just because a small number of people are offended doesn't mean they should change a franchise name. If that were the case we would be changing a lot of names.

Yes, I did. You said: "The Indians themselves said they don't care, so why should anybody else?"

This implies that the Indians, as a collective group, don't care, or, in other words, 10 out of 10 don't care. The reality is 9 out of 10 don't care. Therefore, your statement was incorrect.
