Is it possible to forget how to hit features?

this season was my first real park year and i learned how to hit boxes and then rails and finally do a 270 out but only once or twice. i’m really nervous about forgetting how to hit rails and having to relearn, can that happen? thanks

This is also my first park year, I just plan on jumping on pvc tubes in my shoes and trampolining all summer, maybe with some summer set up action mixed in. I'm also gonna be playing lots of ski games and visualizing a bunch because I'm already missing skiing. I doubt you're gonna forget how to do stuff but keeping skiing on your mind will probably help. I didn't think about skateboarding all winter and when I came back I spend a day or 2 getting back into it and now I'm where I was last year.

Thank you man, I have severe anxiety so I am already nervous about losing that memory and it would actually really suck if i did. i plan on going summer skiing in oregon and indoor in NJ. also building a backyard setup and i’m trying rollerblading.

You'll get rusty but skiing is such a mental sport, keep your mind on it and do other sports during the summer and keep watching skiing and you'll be good

it's kinda like math class, once something is under your belt, for the most part it's no big deal

^ like what he said, It's not that you "forget" your tricks but rather in gets stored in another place in the brain and when ski season comes around you have to pull it out again. Practicing or visualizing during the summer can help a ton though.

the mind can forgot how to hit features but my muscle memory never will always just take over.

My first season of rails I thought the same thing. I didn't even have any tricks like you, I could just slide em. Next season after like 1 day it all came back and actually felt much better. If you can do something similar in the summer (longboard, skate, surf, etc) where you are moving forward, positioned sideways, and lean to control yourself, you'll be especially set.

Wtf this is exactly what happened on my first day back this year..

I took roughly 3 years off of skiing a little while back and was surprised at how fast everything came back. Take it easy for a few days at the beginning and I'm sure it'll all come back.

I've never had a problem with forgetting how to do tricks. First run of the season there is usually a big mental hurdle, then you eventually just say "screw it" and send it. After three runs of awkwardness, you feel right back to normal.

If you think about skiing enough you’ll never lose tricks. Especially if you have skiing dreams where you’re taking park laps. Not to sound like an egotistical asshole but I think this is why I’m not really rusty when I come back from the off-season, because I’m literally thinking about doing Britney’s on rails or 2p2s on down tubes, shit like that, non fucking stop. I have dreams about that shit more than half the time as well. If you just keep running it back and trying to remember what it was like to do that trick you’ll never lose it.

i think i saw a thread of yours recently about skiing dreams and i didn't end up responding but i was going to say, there's some really interesting stuff out there to read about how when an athlete visualizes doing something, it activates the same parts of the brain (cerebrum...?) as actually doing the physical activity

skiing is a crazy good example of that because it's such a technique-demanding sport but you can literally get much better by sitting on your ass watching good skiers. it's really interesting

Yup it helps a lot. You do something in your dream and it becomes a feasible trick in real life. Skiing dreams have also helped me become more creative in the way I hit features and tricks I usually don’t even try or think of

This on a whole new level... when trying to fall asleep I’ll try to think of the features my park crew has put in and I can like run laps in my brain and try to make creative lines. half of the stuff I can’t do irl but I have the fundamentals down enough where I can feel myself pedaling and spinning. It’s pretty wild
