Is hdpe good for a box?

I have been searching through threads and other than lexan, people have talked about this stuff, hdpe. Is it good for sliding? also, how thick should it be?

i have it, its fine so far its softer than lexan or plexi i did 1-4 inch thick

$50 for 16 sqft at 1/4 in, is this stuff worth it? sliding and durability wise.

wouldn't other stuff such as acrylic or plexiglass shatter in the cold?

i am building a flat down flat box.

actually, i just found somewhere close to my house where a 1 ft x 4 ft hdpe sheet is $12. Still, is it worth it since i need 4 pieces?
