Is global warming really something to worry about?

yeah i was gonna clarify that i didn't mean to say it already hasn't started affecting skiing. obviously it has. winter here sux.

however saying MRG won't open at all is absolutely ridiculous. as many others have stated the weather patterns are going to get more extreme so there 100% will never be a season with no snow. i could see them closing shortly mid-season after the snowpack is wiped out though.

additionally, MRG start/opening dates have remained virtually the same since the 40s.

20$ says that mad river glen will have a season where they do not open for lift access skiing in the next 10 years.

this bet will be invalidated if MRG invests in snowmaking or dramatically its snowmaking system.

if the double opens but not the single for a season (because of lack of snow) we split (no one pays anybody).

I hope you’re right, but you have to be realistic and not just deny the facts of what we are seeing.

My high school’s on hill comp center was destroyed by a mudslide because of a 7” rainstorm. In december.

I also wouldn’t be shocked if the east coast sees a record breaking season sometime in the next 10 years. But precip, especially large storms, seem to come in above 35 degrees every time.

sure sure.

i do think/hope hat mad river will invest in snowmaking. at least to have one route from the double, but not more than that. they took a while to open the double because there wasn't a "beginner way down" but shouldn't have to need one to open, just put "advanced skiers only" at the bottom. it was such bullshit, all of their trails would have been open if not for that.

still it's so nice not skiing on man made snow, that stuff sucks. i am getting pretty fed up with the winters here, i've kind of stopped paying attention to the weather and assumed it'll be bad. heard february should be good though.

winning an argument agains tim is like winning a fight against a child…

oh wait, it is.

calling me a child for not thinking mrg is going to remain closed for a whole year is pretty childish. idk why you actin like we have to be opps.

yeah, it was definitely not the most thoughtful things i’ve ever said.

Something about the way you called everyone alarmist for agreeing with climate science and weather trends we are seeing rubbed me the wrong way.

Sorry steezyyeeter, my last reply was childish af.

But what if ski mountains adapt and develop crazy snow makers by the time we really start to be affected by global warming

Snowmaking is very resource heavy and is not good for the environment in any way. There's no way to get around that water freezes at 32 degrees, I wouldn't expect any snow making tech to be able to skirt that condition

I'm pretty sure you can make it over 32 degrees, at least on the small scale. Radiative cooling and the ideal gas law can get the water vapor down to a lower temperature than the air.

It's like how you can get frost on the grass at night even when the air temp never drops below freezing.
