Is Final Cut Worth It?

So me and my buddies have got much more into filming edits this year. I finally saved up enough to upgrade from my go pro to a t2i. I'm currently using I'movie for all my edits and thinking of getting final cut, however at my level I want to make sure that I'd actually need it and use all its features before dropping 300 dollars. Anyone have any opinions? Thanks!

Personally, I think iMovie is currently in a better stage (Apple cares more about iMovie it seems) than FCPX in certain main aspects. Sure it limits you, but the slo-mo in iMovie is surprisingly awesome. In FCPX, the slo-mo is absolutely AWFUL. Idk, I got a cracked version of it for free just to use and in some aspects, such as creative freedom, FCPX has more to offer, but some aspects need a lot of work. Get a free trial of FCPX and try it out, make a few edits and learn its quirks. You might like it, you might not. Adobe Premier Pro is probably the way to go in terms of a professional editing software. But, the $20 a month is ridiculous, so I personally would just get a cracked version.

I reckon you just answered your own question. You'll know when you want something with better features and when you've grown out of iMovie, just like knowing you wanted to get a t2i because the gopro was beginning to limit you. Theres no need to use more complex software if the more basic one is working well for you. And really, nobody else can tell the difference

Honestly fcpx is garbage, stick with iMovie. FCPX is basically a slightly "more advanced" version of iMovie, and not worth the price. Your edits will not get better. You can be just as creative in iMovie as you can in final cut.

My advice is save up a for a couple of years ad get the adobe creative cloud. It's expensive so it will take some time to save up for, but definitely worth it. Also, I wouldn't recommend upgrading necessarily you have a reason. For me personally, I upgraded to adobe creative cloud, because some of the jobs I was getting required it. The work flow is also a lot better imo, there are tabs for assembly, editing, color, and sound; it makes it very easy to edit exactly what you need. Also with adobe creative cloud, you can set up a behance account for free. Bechance is basically like instagram for professionals. It allows you to share your projects, and even get jobs through the platform

Sorry for the double post.

Another big reason I hate FCPX, is because it doesn't let you save multiple projects. You can only be working on one project at a time. FCPX does this thing called auto save, so it automatically saves whatever you were most recently working on. Obviously in adobe you can save as many projects as you want, and have the ability to work on different projects at the same time.

Honestly imovie isnt that bad, its a pretty descent editing software and like someone said the slo mo is better and everything is simplified. If there are features you want that imovie doesnt include and fc has then upgrade but youre edits are pretty good already.
