Is college as lame as it looks?

MSU and Utah are all over my social media accounts with their pep rallies and clubs and window-shattering band music. I already want to off myself and I haven't even been on either campus yet.

Are new students required to attend all that weird orientation stuff? Or can you just skip everything and fly under the radar? I just want to ski and get a degree, not hype up the institution stealing my money.

You're like 2 seconds into the school year, people are new, people are getting used to shit. Give it a month or so.

You'll be okay.

Jesus.

what ever happened to living the dream mannnnn??

employee housing getting old for you?

Going to college someday mannnn. Not looking forward to it mannnn. Sorry your life fucking sucks.

If you feel that the institution is just stealing your money and socializing with your peers brings you to thoughts of suicide you should probably not go to college and just be an angry lifty somewhere remote.

I agree!

Sconnie, my man, you gotta chill out. Stoked for what you're doing, I was gonna do the same thing, still might do it at some point.

College really ain't that bad, you can do it debt free if you wish. Right now I'm going to school in Idaho.. super chill school, pretty damn cheap. 20-30 minutes from a dope local hill. 2-3 hours to Sun Valley, Targhee, Jackson, all the SLC resorts (Pow Mow, SnowBasin, Alta, SnowBird, PC, Brighton, etc.)

4 hours to the Bozeman resorts. 3 hours to Boise, which has Bogus, Brundage, Tamarack, etc. within an hour or so as well

If you don't want to go to a big school and pay big money,, I'll tell you more about where I'm posted up.

If you want to spin some laps, let me know. I'd be stoked to meet up and shred

Orientation stuff blows but universities provide a lot of cool opportunities.

Free concerts, free access to high level sporting events, amazing facilities for literally any recreational activity you can imagine, etc., and that's not even mentioning the educational resources you get, which I doubt you have even considered OP. You're already paying for those things with your tuition so why not take advantage of them?

If you're just going to college to be the same person as when you started then I feel bad for you.

You don't have to do any of that extra stuff but it comes with the tuition and student fees etc.

Community college is by far the best deal for credits if you are just starting out. Also gives you more freedom to just take a class or two if you are working. If you like online classes some schools like this one in Oregon will let you pay the same in-state price even if you are not a resident.

Nice. I'll have my tour setup this year.. and maybe a collective pass so I should be up there a bit this year.

You should also come down to pebble creek and shred with the tribe

ISU. If you want to know more, let me know. It is honestly a pretty cool little place. Only downside really is the nightlife. There is not much, but hey this weekend ill be driving down to SLC and having fun with their nightlife for the weekend lol. I am not a huge partier anyway, so I do not mind it that much, but it can be a drag from time to time.

where is the other half of my post?

I said that its a great opportunity to meet people.

also, I find that the more you get into lame stuff the more memorable and fun it gets.

Honestly, I love school so much. Some of the activities and events aren't for me, but such is life. No one forces you to do anything in college. You can do anything you want which can either be liberating or overwhelming. It's all what you make of it !

I skipped that shit and smoked with my friends and played basketball freshman year. No one is forcing you to do shit unless it is obligated by a scholarship or a team

college is too fun. its my last year so im making the most of it. never again can you fuck around, drink thur-sat, have wild insane one night stands with all sorts of crazy fucking, do drugs with your mates, stay up till 4 am and not have any issues, go to parties with more girls than guys every time, free gym... college is sweet haha

You aren't even close to making the most of it if you are only drinking 3 days a week.

not trynna become alcoholic, i see it happen to so many people. 3 nights is plenty

To be honest... No one really cares what you do, how you do, what you study, if you fail out or if you get on the dean's list. No one cares if you're getting "robbed" by a "institution". Literally, no one give a shit.... Maybe your parents...

My advice... Go to class, study, party, have fun, meet a shit ton of people, go to concerts, go skiing, go on road trips, try different things but also treat the next 4-5 years of college as the beginning of your career. Like it or not, your career/job will eventually matter to you. Again, what do I know, I'm a washed up skier.

I absolutely loved where I went, but I never actually stepped onto it's campus until the first day of classes. Had no clue which buildings where which, or where my buildings were, never did orientation or met with an advisor the first year lol

Lol it's college, you have the most freedom you'll ever have. So try and make your already incredible life even better, you might get laid.

Lold at this cause of all your earlier post about college being too institutionalized, the governments corrupt blah blah blah, live the dream be a ski bum!!!

You yanks have such weird college experiences, often going out of state and such (like going to a different country) and living on campus dorms.

Here it just means you get paid a measly amount in student allowances usually enough to pay for your rent and gear up for the 1€ beer nights. I'd say the vast majority actually live at their parents if applicable to save on costs.

Go to Michigan Tech. I go camping and biking every weekend in some of the most remote and beautiful places in the Midwest. College is what you make it.
