Is Bend A Big City Yet?

Is Bend big enough to provide professional jobs that pay better than typical ski towns? Anybody working in tech, engineering, law, ect making a good living and living good?

seems like the kinda place where ideally you will have a job before you move there. it is really not far to Corvallis and Eugene and there seems to be an endless supply of talented people that want to live in all 3 of these towns but there is a limited number of jobs. from the sound of it the job market is probably as good as ever tho

I was offered a electrical engineering job in Bend a couple years ago at a engineering firm and again recently at Facebook in nearby Prineville.

It’s a dream to be in a ski town and not be broke. However I still felt uncomfortable with not a lot of options in town if something happens. Worst case I could relocate to Portland.

Right now pretty much your only option is Salt Lake with it being 15 minutes from park city, BCC, LCC. Downside is the people. Hint: everyone of the hundreds of engineers at the airplanes factory I worked at there was imported from out of state and there was a full time person chopping up $5000 parts all day long for the trash.

If you expand your scope to 90 minutes drive to ski you have lots more options.

Bend is definitely a place you want housing and a job lined up. The market is great if you want a job lots of places looking people. The housing might be harder to find. Its getting bigger and allowing more opportunities but you never know.

Yeah, I’d have a job lined up. But even with that, if it’s something specialized like a engineer job, there aren’t many backup options in Bend. If you’re a dentist, Subaru mechanic or barista, that’s different.

There is so much building going on, depending on your specialty there is a ton of work for competent engineers.

bumping this even though it’s 6 months old cause I’m looking into moving to bend but not a tech person I do carpentry work mostly
