Is anyone else scared shitless by wood rails?

Not really sure why im making this a thread but I have some very big problems with wood rails and they're pretty pointless if I do say so myself, anyone have any tips on grinding wood rails or any horrible accidents with them?

I caught my edges real hard and hit my face into ground. Just make sure your edges aren't sharp and you'll be good to go.

QFE!

Never had the chance to hit a wooden rail. The only wood urban rail I've wanted to hit is capped with lattice. Pretty sure I'll just collapse the stuff then leave the rail mega fucked.

If it's a DFD or donkey I hate them. I've dug in too many times to ever want to do those again. Anything else is fine. I really like the feel of them, just nice and soft.

Other companies have been doing this for their teams but next year moment is selling an edge less ski underfoot to public. I have them and I can ride on rocks and trees and stuff they're sweet! Never catch an edge

well that must have sucked dick i cant imagine how many times you've dug into wood rails and i do not understand at all how you prefer them there really isnt anything better about wood rails other than being a bit softer for landings and arnt as loud

You don't like them so they're pointless? Great thread.

I can understand people not liking them but it's variety. Some people love them so get over it.

Tips, be careful when it's ridiculously warm out in the spring as they don't always slide so well. other than that detune those edges and do the damn thing.

i dont know if anyone else has skied at bretton woods but the coos terrain park has these nasty like sticks that poke out of the ground that are virtually unhittable unless you snowboard

I was kinda just looking for others peoples views on them, in my opinion i do think their useless yes and i was wondering if other people thought the same thing.

I also know that people like them and I was looking for reasons why others may say that they are better.

I enjoy sharing my views and having others add to them so there's no need for your debby downer attitude mister so thank you very much and have a nice day.

Wooden rails are something that's different, many people enjoy wooden rails, and for that they have a purpose/ aren't useless.

Variety yo.

And me being a debbie downer? You're talking about how they're useless and a horrible idea. I was just saying they're different, people like them and I think they're fun.

Wood parks FTW. YOLO SWAG

I respect your opinion and id just like to reword my statement and say that they are useless to me and if your looking for a wood park they have one called sticks at sunday river thats all wood but ive only done it on a snowboard not sure how it would be on skis because I really dont want to try

The only tree/wood rail ill dare it is the wooden log on broadway at sunday river. Most of the time I can slide the whole thing.

I think having whole wood parks in one spot is good though. It lets the people who want to get some wood in their life do it up and people who hate wood to avoid it.

I can def understand why some skiers would hate it.

Probably the sketchiest wood park ever but crotched use to have a 50'? foot long battleship tree in the middle of the woods. Probably 5 feet tall coming right out of the ground and with trees on both side. Probably unskiable but fun as hell on a board.

yes exactly

and ive seen some like the battleship tree one tried it on a board and hit one of the trees on the side caught an edge and then fell like 5 or 6 feet to ice

This. I tried to hit one, caught an edge as soon as I got on it and went flying. My shoulder still hurts

The flat down and the flat bar in the stash at Killy are beautiful. Most of the stash rails aren't really meant for skis, but they're fine, never had any issues.

Detune your edges and ur golden. Also make sure the woods icy or atleast wet its when its dry that u want to be scared cause thats when u catch like no other.

I've eaten shit on so many poorly made wooden features at Gore and Whiteface im terrified to try hitting them anywhere else. The ones at the Stash and whatever the wood run at Mount Snow is look promising though.

i havent skied anything edgeless before but i dont think it would make that much of a difference compared to skis with super dull edges. To detune my park skis i just had a guy at a shop run it over the grinder at a 45° angle a few times until they were pretty much like half circles all the way through the ski. Sure i cant get a solid grip on sheer ice, but anything else is no problem at all to go around making clean racer carves everywhere.

Yeah was a better teacher than metal. Instant feedback on edge control. And less painful to fall on. It's probably being less painful to fall on is why I like it, or else it's the memories. Nostalgia.

Center yourself on the rail and grow some huevos. They slide mad well, and are fun once you get over the whole grind thing.
