IPod music transfer problem (I need help...)

So I've search-barred around and read a bunch of threads about ripping your music from your iPod to your computer if the music on your computer got erased. I'd like to do it without downloading any programs or paying any money so I tried the way many people suggested where you go into the hard drive of your iPod and manually drag and drop all the folders full of music into the computer, and then into iTunes where it re-names them.

So, I did this, and it took forever, and finally when all my music was back on my computer in my iTunes, I clicked on a song to play and an error message came up saying "There is no source found for this music file" and it turns out every single song was like that. So in short, it didn't work.

Any reason why that method didn't work for me? What's the next best option or program to get all my music to my PC?

Ive had that happen before. It was because it wasnt saved to my music or wherever you have your music. So copy all of it to "my music" or whatever, then upload all the songs from that.

Yeah it's all about my music folder, because on a PC iTunes only searches in there. The same thing happened to me when I was backing my stuff up, I moved my music to an external Hard Drive and I literally got a new computer before I could get iTunes working. It's next to impossible I tried everything. Good luck you don't sound too screwed though haha

your question was answered in the first post...

iTunes doesn't save the actual music files in the library, it basically reads them from a file on your computer and just plays them. you need to go into the folder on your ipod again, drag the music into a folder on your computer (music, documents etc) and than once they are copied onto that folder, drag them into your itunes library

download idump....its free and works.....but if you dont want to download then take the advice of having a folder on your desktop with all the music, then copy out of that folder to itunes

Alright I get how to do it, i understand the folders/source problem, but when I plug in my iPod and open it up under my computer, there is no file or folders for the music in it. Just folders for like photos, calendar, recordings etc. No "music" folder for me to be able to drag into my computer. Anybody know whats up?

Try making a new folder and calling it "tunes" or "jams"...anything but "music" so you don't get it confused with the standard music folder

no no what i was saying is there is no "music" folder showing up in the ipod itself, when i access it through "my computer". i just did some more digging though and it is just a hidden file, all i did was click Show hidden Files and wa-la, the little beauty called "itunes control" appears and thats where the music files are.

Problem solved..

Damn, that shit has saved me so many headaches, the only negative about it now is theres a limit on how many songs you can do, so i just had to uninstall it and redownload it
