Ipod help

alright so i got an old 60GB ipod video, and i used to always update it with my i guess "music" computer (an old toshiba running on windows XP that i use for music) and i just transfered 100 songs from my mac to this computer and i plugged in my ipod for the first time in months and it says that theres an unknown device attached, whats wrong?
 
it might be the ipod itself or it might be the computer one or the other might be outdated for the other and i have a feeling its the computer and you might just have to update the vomputer for the ipod but im not sure
 
yeah that could be it. When u go onto ur itunes, click the "help" tab on the top left, and than click "check for updates"....and than also after you plug ur ipod in, on the main screen, there should also be an option to check for updates for ur ipod. if ur still plugging it into the same computer as before, worst comes to worst, it will just erase ur ipod, and re-add all the songs.
 
yeah, like i said it had worked previously for awhile, and i just called apple and apparently my "phone helpline" has been up for like 500 days and they wanted me to pay 40 bucks so that i could talk to an operator fucking bullshit
