Ipod help

ok to start off i have a 2nd gen shuffle. now, i bought it off some kid for 20 bucks, took it ome used a freinds cable to put my music on it and then went and bought my own own cord. came back home plugged it in and everything was fine. now, heres where the problem starts. my ipod doesn't show up in windows itunes etc.. i plug it in, andthen like 5 minutes later i get this little window that says a usb device had malfuctioned and that it ant recognize it blah blah blah. but it still charges the ipod. so my question to you newschoolers is do u know whats wrong with my ipod.

you may wanna try re-installing itunes? not sure if that will help or make sure that it is the newest one...and reformat the shuffle

If you tried all the steps on their troubleshooting guide with no luck, you may have to send it back for service.

I've heard that taking it apart and removing the battery forces a firmware reset, fixing most serious problems, but I have not tried it, and it voids warranties and all that as well.

One other thing too....if you are plugging it into a usb hub or some other kind of extension/bridge/adapter, try plugging it directly into the computer instead.

I have seen my iPod choke when plugged into a hub, but work perfectly plugged directly into the computer.
