So I just got an ipod video from my friend who didn't want to deal with all the warranty for a new one because he got a touch for christmas. he said, if i could fix it, i could have it. Well i turned it on and it worked great.... for about an hour.. It lost battery power extremely quickly and when i went to charge it, it said "this ipod does not support firewire connection [to charger?]).. so i plugged it into a charger with a USB. then it just restarted and the screen came up white with a menu of checklists or something.. well this went on for a while and now i can only listen to it when it's plugged in because it dies quickly (even when off).. now my question is can "I" return it to apple even though i wasn;t orginal purchaser and turns out he actually lost the original box?

or is there any way i can fix it?

and there is an apple store near me if that helps

Sounds like the battery is burnt from tons of use. Doubtful you can take it back to Apple if you don't have a receipt and its out of warranty but it wouldn't hurt to try...
