IPOD and skiing

Hey I just got a new ipod (20GB 3rd gen). I want to use it for skiing, but they seem to be quite fragile having a hard drive in them and all. Also the battery issues. Does anyone ski with an ipod, or have some feedback on how they work for skiing and in cold air etc? Thanks.

 
i have skiied with mine before in the case it comes with. it was pretty secure but for the park and stuff i want to get a hard case. they are pretty solid but i dont wonna break it. get a hard case and ski with it then.

there are these things that its like a metal or really hard plastic case you can buy its like ipod armor or something, It seems like it would work really well, I'll go find the site for you since I'm bored in comp class.

ya the ipod is the best little thingy for skiing. I think I might need to get some of that armor for mine tho, could be a good idea

yea just search ipod accessories at google or something. The amount of stuff that apple and third party companies make for the ipod is endless, so you should be able to find a case or skin that fits your need.

yeah its easy to break them. i broke one falling on a jump then got a new one and got the armor thing that apple sells at their stores. works fine. that ipod armour looks good too

don't worry they are pretty hard to break. Mine came out of my pocket on the first hit of the pipe once, the music stopped but I didn't know what happened. I get to the bottom of the pipe and look up it and I see my ipod sliding down. It came right to my feet, I just plugged it back in and kept riding. nothing happen to it at. I ski with a sony clie, which is like a palm pilot. It plays music ant takes vid and pics and I ski with it all the time. I put it inside my pants pocket undermy snowpants, it keeps it protected from teh bitter minnesota winters and from my constant falling.

headphone jacks do get fucked up with too much movement though, watch out for that, it happened to both my MP3 player (nomad jukebox) and my CD player

my ipod has gone everywhere with me, it's been in the ocean (complete accident) and even under a snowpack for somewhere around an hour... anyway my story with that (which ive said on here before) is that i lost it skiing early morning, but i wasnt playin music at the time so i didnt notice it until hourse later, a friend and i spent another couple of hourse scouring the ski basin for it until he gave up and went down for the lodge... anyway so im hikin up lookin for the damn thing and this guy skis up and asks me if im looking for something. i said yeah, then he started me asking questions about what it said on the back (i got it custom engraved). to make a long story short the guy had found it AND ACTUALLY GAVE ME MY IPOD BACK. that guy was so fuckin cool...

hahahahha well i fell on a 70 ft table with my pod right to the side i have it in and well it kept playing well im happy no skip or stop so thats pretty durable.

ahh i dont get it, why buy a mini when for like 20 bucks more you get a real ipod which holds like 5000 more songs, and is only about half an inch bigger

i keep a hand warmer in the same pocket as my i-pod, once i forgot and the screen turned yellow and it looked like their was ink spreading under the screen from the cold. It was fine the next day tho.

the batteries are still fucked. but that takes a lot of repetitive using and charging for a while, so dont worry too much unless you use the whole battery every day and recharge it every night.

i really don't see the point in spending severl hundred dollars for something to play music on. im pickin up a mini-disc player soon for $150 rather than the $399cdn for an ipod. so what if new discs cost a few each, they're a lot easier to justify.

definitely. im on my third mini-disc cause they keep on breakign. i took my first one in the shop 8 times before i finally replaced it!!! im so sick of my my md breaking that im gonna pay the extra money and get an ipod. anyone know how much the ipod mini costs in cdn funds?

its hard to understand the logic of dropping so much on an ipod until you finally get one. they are fuckin amazing. having ALL you music everywhere you go in something a little bigger than a deck of cards is really nice. the user interface is nearly perfect. so easy to use. the battery is not really and issue, it doesn't wear out untill after 500 full charge cycles. all batteries wear out though, camcorders, cell phones, ect...not just the ipod. its 99 for a new one

The main reason that I would get an Ipod is so I can have music collection everywhere I go in a palm, I'm planning on buying the car install so I can just stick the Ipod in the car and have albums upon albums on a little player without any hassle of changing cd, looking for them and etc.

my brother gave me his old md player and its fine for me (hasnt gone skiing because i just got it last week but seams durable). its an old one but it works great. i would only get an ipod if i had a shitload of songs, but i dont so i wouldnt use it that much.
