Iphone question. please help?

So I dropped my iphone 3g 16gig in the toilet and fried it.

Today I went to the Apple store and found out that they don't make the 16gig 3G anymore, only the 8 gig. So I would have to sign another contract to get it because it would be a downgrade and I do not want to do that right now.

And if I want a 3GS I will probably have to sign another contract also. I am going to the Genius Bar tomorrow to see if they'll swap it out.

Question: Can I buy another iPhone 3G 16 gig online and throw my sim card into it as long as it is unlocked?

Bastards at Apple Store just want my money!

If you have at&t you can just buy one with not extending your contract, it will cost about $500 to $600 depending what size. I would also check craigslist, they seem to be a little cheaper than Ebay. Don't extend your contract for the 3GS, there is another one coming out in about five months.

just buy the normal 16gb 3G off of ebay then unlock it yourself. its not rocket science...

while we're on the topic of unlocking iphones, i just bought an 8GB 3g off of kijiji which is locked onto telus. I have a contract on bell and want to switch the iphone in place of my current phone. Can anyone tell me the best way to unlock it and what firmwire to use? I tried a program called black ra1n and it didn't work at all.
