Hey all,
My iphone was dropped today and the screen shattered. The phone still works fine, but the screen is fucked...what can I do?

yup. been livin' with my broken htc aria screeen since before christmas. if it work's why replace it? unless it's free.

well, I've been digging microscopic pieces of glass out of my thumb for a few hours now. I heard somewhere that Apple does screen repairs...any truth to that?

look online for a cheap new screen, you can just get one online and put it in yourself its really not that hard.

a kid does that on campus here at PSU for like 60 bucks and makes bank. i don't even own one and i think i might start replacing them.

I'll help you out as much as I can seeing as I just went through this less than a month ago. You have a few option ranging from free to 200 bucks.

1. Deal with it. Yeah I know it's a pain in the ass. I dealt with mine for about a month until shards started falling out everywhere.

2. Try fixing it yourself. There are MANY pros and cons to this approach. It can be inexpensive (There are kits online ranging from $5 to $60). I personally bought a kit off Zeetron.com which ran me $35 plus shipping. The kits come with all the tools you need to do it yourself but the issue is that fixing it yourself voids any warranty you have left, and if done incorrectly it can fuck up more things (broken LCD screen, fucked up motherboard, etc.) I did not end up using the kit I bought and have since returned it to Zeetron but from what I heard it's a decent one. The issue with the cheaper sets (5-~$20) is that the Digitizer you buy is not factory quality and the new screen may not be as responsive as your old one was. Do a lot of research before attempting to fix it yourself.

3. Find someone who knows what they are doing to fix it for you. Like skithesprings said, here at Penn State there's someone who advertises everywhere. He charges $50-70 depending on what you need done/how long you are willing to wait. These people probably have more experience with changing the screens but there is no way of knowing if they will fuck your phone up like is possible with a self-fix. I really don't know how much I would trust someone that is just a friend/college student/random person because if they break something more than it was before good luck getting money out of them.

4. Call Apple and send it in to them. No matter how hard you try, the representatives for Apple on the phone will not listen to you. I had many issues with them and I commend you/am jealous of you if you had a good experience with them. They will just tell you it is not covered by warranty and want $200 to fix your screen. I would not go with this route unless this next option is not possible and you don't trust a self-fix.

5. (BEST OPTION!!!!!!!!!!) Go to an Apple Store. Cross your fingers and hope you get someone who is having a great day. Every Apple store is equipped with a machine that fixes screens in about 10 minutes. ALthough the screen break is not covered under warranty, if you have had a good record or frankly get someone who is having a good day/doesn't care they will fix it for free. That's right, I walked into an Apple store, told the guy I dropped my phone and destroyed my screen, and 30 minutes later he waived all fees and I had basically a brand new phone. If they do not waive the fee for you, it is only $100. Compared to sending it in and paying more, or trying to fix it yourself with the potential of fucking it up more, I would go for this route either way if there is an Apple store close. Be nice and they may do it for free.

I did a lot of research about fixing it myself and decided going the Apple Store route was my cheapest and least risky venture. Like I said, I really lucked out and the guy didn't charge me. If you have any more questions let me know, I hope everything I said has helped.

well, youve got a few options...
1. You could throw a screen protector on and live with the cracks2. bring it to apple and have them basically give you a new phone for 200 dollars3. bring it to apple and make something up, hope the customer service buys it and swaps it out for you.4. replace the screen yourself for 75-125 dollars (depending on where you purchase the parts from) and another thing to note is that since its an iphone 4 the glass is laminated to the LCD display so you have to replace both the display AND the glass, cant just replace the glass like you could on previous models.
hope i helped you out man

nobody in here has given you an answer for the iphone4. all previous generations had relatively inexpensive screens to replace. with the 4, it's a more expensive part, and the cheapest I could find for a replacement with labor not through apple is 170. officially, apple will quote you 200, but often at the genius bar, if you are nice and admit fault and are super polite, they will either hook you up for free or 100$ instead of 2. They don't have a machine that fixes them in the store as quoted above, they just give you a new refurb, so make sure to back up your phone before you go to the apple store. If you want to do it yourself, you're looking at 130 for the screen and digitizer, and really technical labor, but if you're patient and meticulous, you can pull it off yourself.

happened to me dropped my phone off a couch onto carpet and it shattered, i went in and talked to them for a good half hour to 45 mins, im stil under the apple care which allows them to replace your phone for hardware or software problems but not physical damage. i went in and told them my phone would drop calls, miss texts, not get emails.... all that jazz. Told them i replaced my sim card and have reset the phone but it still happens, and they replaced it for me. i think i got lucky and i know its not the most honest thing to do but apple makes enough money sorry

the iphone 4 you can buy on ebay a replacement glass and then get a little screw driver and take out the cracked one and then screw in the new one back in. if you go to the apple store they rip you off. but i think it depends if it is the back or front.

Yea man mines not as bad since i dropped it and the back of the phone shattered.. kinda shitty but not worth fixing just for the bACK

yes apple does replace the screen if you go into the apple store. probably costs something though..this is the biggest fear with mine

she asked when it happened and i said a little bit ago, i told her i had problems before dropping it and she told me dropping it could have messed up the stuff inside
