Invaders and powder...

My current planks are 2008 171 line invaders ( im 5'5" 127lbs)

My question is how do they preform in pow. This year im planing on doing so hiking at some resorts and try to get a little east coast pow anytime i can but im worried my invaders really just wont cut it. I'd really appreciate if anyone shared some experiences with invaders and powder.

thank you

ive got the 08/09 chronics which a 85mm underfoot (invaders 83) and this year maryland got 22 INCHES in one weekend and i was surprised on how well my chronics preformed. i have the 176 and im about 5 foot 11 and 160punds and got them mounted -2 from true center. but this year i'm going to tahoe so thats when i'll put the chronics to the max and see how they perform. overall i think your invaders would be decent in the pow, but not amazing. they will get you through the day but i wouldn't recomend them be a 100% POW ski but if your only doing a lil pow they'll be ok, you might just have to lean back to keep you tips you and to stay aflot depending on you weight and how deep the pow is.

yeah fuck park skis in powder. anyone who tells you they will be ok is an ignorant fuck.

well the thing is, i dont ski enough pow to justify having a real powder ski. I will when i can, and look for stashes when i can but the majority of the time im going to be skiing an icy, hardpack park ( as i live out east )

i know they wont be a good pow ski, but will they hold up enough for it to be remotely enjoyable.

see if you can demo some skis that would be more appropriate on a powder day. Invaders would suck but at least youre skiing pow. Powder skis allow powder skiing to be 100 times more enjoyable than it already is.

Pow is almost always enjoyable, and if you don't have much to compare to then the Invaders you already have are going to be fine out East. They are pretty weak even for a park ski though, so if you plan on picking up some speed and doing some technical terrain a more burly ski might be worth it.

check out a pair of k2 extremes. or find a older pair of P.E's cheap( and get a good tune on um).it would be a great east coast ski that could handle park, all mountain, east coast ice and the the occasional pow will be good.

i blew apart my bindings at work at sunshine 3 years ago, the only other option i had was a 179 public enemy a guy on the crew had , it was a 20cm pow day and i had a blast on them still. they were even more fun when it was tracked out.... and you can keep your invaders for rails and summer/back yard set up.

there jib skis so their not meant for pow obviously, but if your talking east coast u should probably be fine.

I learned my mountains slackcountry on 175 GS skis with dimensions of 100-68-?? and loved it!

But the skis are truely horrible when compared to powder skis. See the point? You CAN do it and enjoy it(well, I've actually met plenty of park guys that can't even turn skis with less than a 100mm waste in pow...but that is just sad) but a pow ski or fatter "all mountain" ski will be more enjoyable.

Oh, and I would much rather be on those 68 wasted GS skis for real skiing then a pair of center mount symmetrical noodles. I would recommend waiting around here and other places till a beaten old pair of decent fat skis comes up, mount them not centered since center mounting a ski often(meaning always unless its chopstick type shape) rapes its powder performance, then enjoy them way more than you would the Invaders! Cheap way out!

it wont be as much fun as a fat ski, but it works. just look at those old videos of dudes shredding gnarly lines on 65mm waist skis. if they can do it, you can too.

^^^ This! Like people said its not as fun as a big pow ski but who cares! Its powder! If you don't have anything else to compare to you won't know the difference, just learn to ski with speed and stay aggressive, always try to keep your shins resting on the front of your boots, don't ride like you got a turd in your pants and lean way back. Skiing is skiing, you don't need other peoples acceptance if you wanna ski pow with invaders, just go do it and have fun!

don't expect to get amazing pow on the east coast. Invaders will be fine for under 1 foot. waist deep out west and your scrued.

I agree with everything you said except the last 3 words. Not aimed at anyone in particular, but there are so many people on this site who can't ski powder without powder skis. Oh, and those old dudes got it right with the LENGTH!

y'know a good investment for you would be a pair of older race skis, i got mine with the race px18 for $60 in great shape.

theyre bitchin groomer skis, and honestly, they rip pow, not like a powder ski but if you can ski well they'll be at least 50000000000000x better than your invaders.

i have invaders too, and they CAN ski pow, decently, being symmetrical/center mounted the balance point is weird in soft snow, but you can do it.

yea but invaders and vhronics r diffrent skis tho. invaders are park skis. chronics r all mountain freestyle

yeah you're talking soft vs. stiff, 2 back vs. center, obviously chronics would be better suited in pow. I've skied both in pow and its totally different, and invaders in pow, no just don't even bother. get some anthems though.

I rode mine in pow quite a bit as they were my only ski. I had no troubles with them, but obviously something more powder oriented would have been nicer.

if your a good enough skier you should be able to handle it, it wont be as fun as an all mt ski, or pow ski tho

after some thinking, i decided that they will be fine for my use. Im a fairly good skier and not that pikcy with skis. Some people hate invaders out of the park but i charge with mine all the time, there not the most stable but i dont mind.

Ill make the best out of what i have.

I have last years invaders 171 too and am about your height and weight. I just got back from mount snow 2 days ago and I would have to say you'll be fine. I've never skied powder a day in my life before that cause I live in new jersey and I was expecting them to be really bad but they held up pretty well and it was still fun. I'm sure a fatter ski would be better but you'll definitely have fun.
