Intuition liner + Hawx Ultra XTD

The stock mimic liners aren't plush enough to hold my chicken legs well. And more importantly I can feel the plastic from the upper cuff digging into my legs when I tighten them up.

Anyone stuck an intuition pro tour or pro wrap in their XTD's? Or any other intuition liner for that matter? I don't care if the uphill suffers. Just looking for something that gives me a more secure fit around my leg. Also not looking to make them that much stiffer as I like the flex pattern on the boots.

Thanks

I'll change the flex pattern, at least a little. The tongue liner less than the wrap, but the wrap will probably hold your chicken legs a little bette.

You'll still have a problem with the feeling the hardware most likely. Duct tape over the inside of the shell will help, but it'll become more noticeable as it packs out.

Where are you hoping to improve hold along your leg?

Yeah I figured the Intuition Pro Tour/Wrap wasn’t that much more plush over the mimic. That’s why I’ve considered throwing in an intuition alpine liner.

I need better hold at the top buckle. I’m on the last rung for the metal bale.

When you say "plush", are you looking for a softer liner or one that actually fills up the gaps & fits you better?

If the latter is the case, then you should be looking for a Mimic Professional liner (Hawx version). You will be locked in, no extra space around your ankle/heel/leg. The tongue is also way more padded & dense. Very chicken leg approved.

Liner is super nice, maybe I shouldn’t have used the term “plush”. Ankle lock is quite nice, just looking for a more secure fit on my leg at the top. And less plastic digging into my leg.

I had asked the bootfitter if I could use the mimic professional liner (new foam liner correct?) and was told that they’re not meant for the XTD boots.

I'll let Matt take the "meant for" part.

But honestly, especially if you're just looking for that top of the leg stuff, a beer coozie cut up between the liner and shell, both where you want more space taken up and where you feel the hardware will get you far.

That plus one of those fancy atomic booster straps, orange even a booster between the shell and liner should solve all your issues. Way less expensive than a new liner too.

If your ankle and foot feel locked and pretty comfortable, would NOT fuck around with the liner as a whole.

Yeah I trust his advice completely, just sucks because I was willing to buy the professional series liner at the shop when I went to get these boots fitted.

I’ve got the new atomic booster strap on them. I’ll try out the beer coozie trick and see if that helps out. I appreciate the advice man

In general, your boot-fitter is not wrong since we don't promote the Hawx Mimic Professional liner for the Hawx XTD boots because the liners don't have a flex zone in the Achilles area. When most people buy a Hawx XTD boot, they think the liner should move well in conjunction with the cuff during walk mode. A Mimic Professional liner will reduce the amount of cuff ROM (there's for sure some but not as much) so it just depends on what you are looking for out of the liner. And because the last dimensions are the same between a regular Hawx and a Hawx XTD, the fit is seamless.

When it comes to resort days or short tours/hikes, most of our athletes put a Mimic Professional liner into their Hawx XTD boot and swap back for the more flexible liner for longer tours.

It's all about being aware of the compromises you make and being ok with them. From your original post, it sounded like that would be a worthwhile compromise as long as it held your foot/ankle/leg in place. So If that sounds reasonable to you or matches what you are looking to do, then go for it.
