JP Auclair & Tom Wallisch Street Segment (from INTO THE MIND) from Sherpas Cinema on Vimeo.

Woah...

This was honestly the coolest thing I've ever seen as far as urban edits. JP Auclair 1upped himself as far as creative urban vids go (if such a thing is possible). BIG UPS!

As a Calgarian, this segment could have been way better.I really feel like there could have been feature choice, especially for a movie of this scale. There are alot of Calgary features that are crazy big and would have been better suited for people like tom and JP. Even the double closeout rail at the end (Chinook Learning Services) you could walk across the parking lot and there are 3 drop rails in a row. or beside the building, there is a step down gap to a building overhang, aswell as a gap over some handrails.

Honestly I was disappointed, this segment had so much potential.

Cinematography in that section was so good. Honestly wasn't too focused on the skiing because the shots in general were too cool. It just looked so sick. That first mute 3 that JP does would be normal in any other setting, but in that scene it just seems like the perfect thing to be there. Reminded me of Life Cycles.

Incredible watch. Will be buying the movie because of it.

Production was absolute quality, so good! As said previously, the skiing was only one of the focuses, with all the different factors going on once.

this would be cool, when they were showing the sparks the skis are making on the road they should of put a bit of petrol or meths (just something flammable) down to. Therefore we see the sparks then in awesome slow mo everything goes up in flames! I think that made sense....im not to sure, pretty drunk right now

I thought it was thrilling, like a chase scene. I promptly downloaded the movie after seeing this!

I get what people are saying about it not really being focused on the skiing. It kind of felt more like a teaser than an actual segment. But at the same time I really appreciated that it was so different than any other urban segments I've seen. The filming choices (the lighting, projections, close and far shots) and the editing choices (music, over all fast tempo) showed the crews talent in really planning out a unique segment. They went beyond the usual effort for urban segments and that's why I can understand why it got best picture.

This reminds me of an intro scene from a Need For Speed game......

Nonetheless.. kind of hard to pay attention to the skiing when it only shows you little flashes of it at a time. Way over-produced. Like Chilli said, seemed more like a teaser than a segment

I feel Sherpas cinematography always overshadows the skiing, deliberately or not. This was over-edited and lets face it, the skier could be anyone.

I saw it as for one segment of their movie they decided to not focus 100% on the skiing, but to make something creative and entertaining. There are millions of edits where you can see people do crazy tricks on a rail, this is different, and I appreciate the idea of someone trying something new and putting a TON of time and energy into it. Just setting up this sequence had to take days of planning, hours of set up time and probably hours of filming, that's what's more impressive to me, I can see Tom hitting a handrail in The Wallisch Project, this was about something more.

Could it be one of the most costly urban segment ever to produce? Also, This is urban for the mass public. People who do not freeski prefer seeing this than a triple kink...

I don't think that was the point of this segment. In All I Can, there still isn't anything even close to the scale that Stept does, but it was still an incredible segment to watch. Same thing here. They aren't trying to produce the most gnarly urban section of all time, they are trying to make it feel like a chase scene in a city, with JP and Tom doing some sick shit in between. It's more about the overall feel of "That was sick" than trying to hit the burliest rail in the city.

I don't understand the disappointment.

Yeah, they had so much potential, all to go overboard with projecting too many eagles on backdrops. Same with birds of prey following skiers through tree around Whistler.

sub-par tricks, shitty angles, fucking awful editing, bad song choice.

how did anyone enjoy watching that? the whole time i kept thinking "when's this shitty intro bit gonna end?" and then it never did.

sherpa's should stick to backcountry, or fuckit they should just make car commercials they're trying waaay too hard and still not very good at this ski movie thing.

Watched this last night and immediately bought the movie. Insane filming and plot line, it felt like something you'd see on Nat Geo instead of in a ski movie.

Borderline unwatchable. Terrible music, over produced, hard to follow, and sub-par tricks. Please go back to letting the skiing do the talking.

I would be better in context of the movie, where we take a break from the actual skiing, and watch this weird crazy sequel to JP's segment in all.i.can

Preferred this to that god awful pipe segment.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Into the Mind, but my favorite parts were still when they actually showed the unedited skiing. IE Calum's part (dope), and DCP's surf/pow/Triple segment.

I thought that it was pretty sick although couldn't really see the tricks being thrown down and also JP seemed to be stuck in the same position the whole time

There were like 3 actually cool skiing shots. Definition of over produced, and really a waste of talent; JP is the shit.

Not a fan, felt like I was watching Batman, not skiing. I understand that is what they were probably going for but just didn't do it for me.

Agreed. I think this segment was probably the worst out of the entire movie, especially for the fact it was the only park/urban scene and they had some all-star talent to work with.

On another note, holy shit I was blown away by some of the big mtn lines. The editing, while a little much at times, really showed how big these guy' lines were. I was definitely impressed.

That was horribly done. To the idiots saying, "oh but it's about the cinematography. You guys are dumb and hating it because it's not ski porn." No, we hate it because we get what they were trying to do and they fucking failed at it. We watch SKI movies because we want to watch SKIING. Is that so hard to understand? The biggest films in action sports all have one thing in common, they show a lot of impressive riding and they have insane filming and editing to accent the action... not fucking overshadow it so bad that you only see 10 seconds of actual content.

If you don't want to watch skiing then don't fucking watch ski movies.

more tricks would have been better then a few threes and one or two flips but i really like the way it was filmed. it came out really aggressive (to me) but i liked that

When I first watched the movie, this segment didn't really impress me all that much, but now on second watch, the filming aspect alone make it amazing.

Wally kills it with the close up (service switch up).

Great segment, only second look.

meh. overproduced in my opinion. as somebody earlier stated, this seems more tailored towards the general public. i would have liked to see more skiing and less shit projected on walls. i could hardly tell what was happening even when they were throwing tricks. to each his own though.

Starting to get back to having a few ski companies that produce something the general ski public/anyone that has ever gone skiing can start to relate to. Not a bad thing for the sport.

I'll admit the cinematography was well done and all but thats not what stands to me out in a ski film. After watching Mutiny this was honestly kind of boring.
