Instagram now gives you copyeright notifications (delete videos)

I recently uploaded an re-edit onto my private Instagram account, as this must be something new within the last update overnight because I got 3 notifications for my videos to be taken down due to myself using copyrighted material. This is going to cause a lot of problems for those who want to be creative with edits and good music to post onto Instagram843764.png

Do they expect you to give credit in the comment/vid, or do they not want you to use music and video that doesn't belong to you at all

There's no other information about it, but i think its a ludicrous concept, especially when its a private profile with zero monetization.

Also, i noticed i out and E in Copyright. My bad, and my OCD is kicking in.

Using someone else's song in your video is a violation of copyright laws.

This has been a thing for awhile, its just like how youtube and vimeo have takedowns, welcome to 2016.

I know that a lot of stuff has changed on youtube (the website has been a shitstorm lately) but for the most part as long as your not profiting from using something and you give credit you are okay. As long as it is not a movie or the likes.

I would be surprised if instagram was going to be harder than youtube, especially since it is a much harder platform to profit off of. I guess you could try to spin the fair use angle? Although that might be difficult to do since it doesn't really apply.

I personally have never had an issue and I have used plenty of copyrighted songs in videos, although I have usually purchased the song off of Itunes or something.

True, but i gave credit for using Vince Staples song, Prima Donna, and still received this notification.

I vlog and film on YouTube as well, and the website recently implemented a thing called "YouTube Heroes" where viewers can flag others for whatever they decide, and three strikes your channel will be shut down.

Yep. Honestly I think that is one of the stupidest thing youtube has done. Right beside demonetizing any videos that are pc.

Well unless you are paying whoever the hell that is for his music, you are "stealing" it.

Mark Zuckerburg says no way boss. Pay for that music or fuck off my world take over of social everything.

You can't just buy a song from itunes then you have the rights to use it in a video...

The baseline issue here isn't that you're making money, its that instagram, youtube, etc are making money off of your video being posted, which is in violation of copyright law.

I understand that i'm not stupid. I'm simply saying that it is common place among these different social media sites.

I would think that's pretty clear...

do you think this is a new thing or something?

youtube has been doing it for years, and I noticed it on instagram in late summer.

solution: pitch shift it a half step up/down to avoid the auto detect. unless you have thousands of followers nobody will come after you.

I got hit with this on youtube today... suuuucks... The worst part is that I was playing COD Bo 3 and the song came on during the credits, so now I'm just in the process of having the song taken out just to be on the safe side and so I can still make money on my 2 hour video that had less than a minute of copyrighted material...

Most of the copyrighted material I have ever come across on PS4 games will actually not stream it so you don't get hit with anything... Kind of a piss off to get hit with it when every other time it just never recorded the audio I wasn't allowed to use in my videos.

I was going to try and dispute under "fair use", but I don't want to get any strikes and it's really not that important to my video for the song to be there.
