Instagram / Less edits than usual on NS

Is it me or there's a whole lot less edits than usual on NS at this time of the year? Seems like everyone is just dumping their shots on Instagram nowadays, which I think sucks cause you forget about those Insta edits pretty quick, they'll never be as sick as an actual 2-3 min edit. And it's pretty hard to go rewatch that stuff.

Insta edits, is it a yes or a no ? I personnally think that it's the worst thing that's happened to online ski media. It's fine to promote edits and stuff, but if you're gonna drop your shots on Instagram and then make an edit with those shots, I think you should have just savd them in the first place.

Curious to see some thoughts on that topic.

SIMPLE. has been putting out some banger stuff....check them out. There's been some great content if you ask me

I'd agree, there are less edits that I'm seeing. Welcome to the future. kids don't use websites they use apps. Instagram gets them all they need. Plus when pros are only uploading 15seconds because it gains followers and makes sponsors happy, the kids will do the same.

I won't say that its good or bad, because for as long as we're around giving a fuck about it then there will be edits to watch. All the best content will find its way to NS.

Did i pay you to say this?

But yeah making an insta edit on a fun day with the boys is sick, but if you're filming with a filmer solely for insta thats kinda lame.

I miss it when Pros put out solo edits without a bunch of logos and company names at the end. (slumdog illionaire)

I think its because a lot of the mountains haven't opened on the east coast yet.

Yeah it's a real shit time here on the East Coast, as of a week ago 50% of the resorts in NY where still closed, tomorrow it's supposed to be 50+ and rain about a inch. I've gotten a total of 5 days in when I'm usually 20 something deep this time of year. Fuck this weather.

Design the system so that If you downvote, you need to leave a comment but that comment also says you downvoted.

Save your best 2 or 3 tricks of the day and put the other ones that didn't make the cut on insta is the way I see it, or if you've got one banger of a trick throw it up. The good clean shots should be saved for your edits end of story.

I feel like a lot of kids got scared away from all the hate honestly.

Most people don't really care including myself but imagine if you are the 14 year old kid who just dropped his first 2 minute edit and you get guys like -emile- commenting "Lol you fuckin suck why post this". What emile says is usually true (lol) and he's obviously not the only member to do that by any mean but getting 10 down votes and 4 hate comments is pretty fucking discouraging for a young kid posting an edit on here.

He posts his shots on instagram instead and gets 50 likes and 6 positive comments from his friends....

Not a very hard choice.

I mean, this is why I don't post much on here anymore loool. The content on NS got real serious and is super high quality. If you aren't doing huge tricks or have a solid camera, it's pretty pointless. I have an iPhone and a GoPro lol... So like I'll stick to Instagram and save myself from getting slammed for being a shitty skier hahahaha.

My very first edit on ns like two years ago got a shit load of hate, looking back I kind of appreciated it, I feel like it motivated me to not suck so much, But sure at the time I felt pretty bad about it.

I don't really think nser's are shitting all over edits and intimidating people from posting, it has just got to the point where no one sees your edit because theres 100 pros posting banger edits everyday and anything "normal" gets lost in the abyss. Whereas on instagram all your skier or non skier friends can check it out which is cool.

I agree with this. Posting something subpar gets very little recognition which means that there is very little reason to keep posting things on ns. Posting something on ig means that your friends and people close to you see at and you get more props.

I think that right now more than anything, what CJ said is correct. The east coast got destroyed this year, and the west coast is too busy riding all the pow they have been getting. The ebb and flow of edits on this site has always very much matched the ski conditions in terrain parks everywhere.

That is why sept/oct are so hot - you get season edits bleeding out your ears. We were insane those months, with hot content dropping left and right.

November and a large part of December are bone dry... because you literally are waiting for the snow to fall. Early season edits go up, but you can only do so many of those before people start falling asleep. As soon as we get all the east coast parks up to full capacity, the flow is going to ramp up.

The second party which Fredy brought up is definitely a factor though, with attention spans ever shortening and people watching stuff on their phone there's a lot being consumed on instagram and put there... both from the standpoint of quickness and the fact that its only your friends who aren't going to rag on you like when you try to stand on the world stage.

Point #2 really re-inforces in my mind our decision to severely crack down on the members who are just plain assholes. There was a phase where we let it run rampant, and even though it quieted a few of the noisy "free speech" types, it really pulled back on the amount of downright bullies we had floating around.

I'm quite confident that as things ramp up around the world, and people have more than two shots to put out, we're going to see a return of a huge amount of edits. Instagram will always be a place to showcase stuff - but we'll also work to help you guys break through on insta. I think we should do a lot more to take top community content and push it out there, so uploading single trick clips, etc. is still a good idea.

Keep the conversation going though, because as the internet changes we need to work to evolve with it.
