Insomniac

Are you born with it? I haven't slept all this week. Or well, for about five days now. It's been getting worse too. I have been trying to control my diet, and drink less caffeinated drinks, eat less sugar. I'm taking a break off of smoking weed, if that would have anything to do with it. I have smoked every day, with 5-6 one-three day breaks in between. But, I could sleep fine on the nights in between. I'm getting kinda worried and annoyed now. Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

Sparknotez: Can't sleep at all. Quit smoking weed after 1 year or so of minor 2-3 day breaks, fifth day in. Don't drink caffeine, don't eat much sugar. I'm worried, shed light. Thanks.

When you go to bed just relax and don't think about falling asleep or not falling asleep. A lot of the times this kind of thing is all in your head. Turning on the TV or quietly listening to music sometimes helps me too.

No probrem.

plus it contains melatonin which is a natural relaxer, and will help you sleep. Also check out Dreamwater at wal-mart.

Or Neurotonic.

No you're actually quite wrong, there's melatonin in that tea which makes you drowsy. And not all tea has caffeine anyways.

melatonin hasn't ever done anything to me, except make me more refreshed when I wake up. Doesn't make me sleepy or anything. And yes, it fucked with my dreams too.

Maybe you ought to speak to your parents and see a doctor if you haven't slept in 4 nights. My mom suffers from insomnia, and her only control is with medical help. Maybe that should be your next step since you've taken all other action.

I don't agree with being medicated. If I am not being medicated for bipolar, i'm deffo not gonna get it for insomnia, if indeed I have it. I'll just wait 4 years, and get my greencard. Problem solved, if I have it.

If you don't wanna go to the doctor for it, it really must not be as bad as you're letting on. Seriously, a doctor will be able to help you a lot more than random kids on the internet.

Word to that brotha! I'm totally against being under the influence of drugs created in labs by big pharma. If I got problems I smoke weed and let nature take its course

WUN LURV♥

I feel you on that in certain cases. I watched my neighbor go from vibrant woman to downright old lady who can barely speak after all the medications her doctor put her on. But people like that don't research and understand or try to understand what they put into their bodies. If you are smart, you question everything a doctor is going to do for you so that YOU understand. Its your choice to be stubborn and at least not get any advice from a doctor to at least put you on another path to helping your issue. Just sayin' is all.

it has less to do with quitting weed than you think, its really more about habits, and smoking weed leads to bad sleep habits. im like you i smoke almost every day, but i like to quit for long periods of time (1 month plus) to recharge my brain cells and rest up my lungs. at first its impossible to sleep not stoned, than you realize you have to change certain things. ie - dont eat within an hour and a half before going to bed, youll have stomach problems all night. also, dont read/go on laptop in bed before bed, it makes you think, and thinking is bad for sleeping. get lots of exercise early in the day - it will make you feel more awake for the rest of the day and help you get to sleep. also, dont use your bed for anything but sleeping. if you train your body well with this, it will know that when it hits the mattress its time to turn off. see when your smoking pot, youll most likely hit a bowl before bed, eat food, and chill on your laptop watching shows etc in bed - which really affect your sleep. finally, cut down on alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and eat foods that make you sleepy for dinner if your trying to go to sleep. turkey sandwich with warm milk comes to mind, i unno what else. if your really an insomniac, and these tips don't work, just try and get a real indica heavy strain of weed, and vaporize or bong rip like 0.5 of a gram plus about 2-3 hours before you are tryna sleep. the burnout from the weed should put you to sleep nicely, just don't try going to sleep while you are still high because that never works.

Thanks for that post, and yes, that sounds like pretty much everything i'm experiencing. And also, to what i'm replying to, oh my god, it's the worst.

yes i was born it always takes me about 2+ hours to fall asleep ive been on sleeping meds since i was 9 you probably just having a stressed week chill bro.

i don't sleep for shit, and haven't been able to for as long as I can remember. couldn't even tell you the last time i fell asleep for more than 2 hours without waking up. shit sucks. i don't ever take any stims, and If i don't work out for several hours to the point of pure physical exhaustion every day, i can pretty much go ahead and write that night off as far as restful sleep is concerned. and even when i do physically exhaust myself, i'm still up every two hours.

melatonin doesn't do shit for me. z drugs, i.e. ambien, don't do shit for me. puffing can sometimes help a little bit, but not much. unfortunately, hardcore narcotics are about the only thing that will really turn my lights out. and clearly becoming a drug addict isn't really a feasible solution.

i feel your pain, dude.

fell asleep in a chair today, on facebook. Don't know how, don't know why. My mom couldn't wake me up. My dad tried shaking me, putting me on my feet and all the rest, and I was still lights out. Parents think i'm a hardcore drug addict, i'm legitimately worried now.

I don't know your lifestyle at all, but that being said...if you spend a lot of time inside on the internet or computer or gaming, get off and get outside and do something. I get the same thing you have every now and then, and the easiest remedy for me personally is to just get off the internet and do something. A lot of times I think that since I ran 10+ miles it means I can be lazy and cruise the internet all day. Also don't take any naps (assuming you do that already).

you will be doing perminent damage to your brain after 5 days. If you actually havent slept for a few hours in there time to call a doctor...

Insomnia is a serious problem, if you go too long without sleep you are risking brain damage. Also 5 days without sleep will severely affect your brain functions meaning you'll make irrational decisions, do badly in school and have an inability to concentrate. Go to the doctors and work out your options, there might be a serious reason you're unable to sleep or they might shed some light on your condition. If you don't want medication the doctor will not prescribe it for you, and they might be able to give you something else to help you sleep.

there is a lot to be said for meditation, stretching before bed, pre sleep rituals, ect. i would find something that works for u if you feel like medication is not the road for you. I am about 20 min away from going through my fiances ritual right now. Nice full body stretch and a 10 min meditation. all lights out no cell phones in the room no tv on just a fan for noise. room relatively cool door locked. you get my drift. you should try and create a ritual and you might find what works. It is natural for your body and mind to want to sleep. somewhere along the way you have developed a habit or OCD with sleep. Some people have a fear that while they are asleep they arent in control so they wake up panic every few hours (my fiance). its terrible but we are getting through it. i feel ur pain she went 2 weeks on less than an hour a night. she was totally mindfucked
