Injury

Acouple weekend when I was skiing I came off a jump and landed really far back seat. I felt like I crushed my calf muscle... The past weekend I was skiing and my calf bothered me abit, but after hitting the jumps for awhile I felt the pain really kickin in toward the end of the day. It kinda feels like there is a giant bruise on the back of my leg when there really isnt. Is there any way to heal this? Suggestions?

you probably bruised the muscle. its still a bruise, you just cant see it on the surface. stretch, massage, etc. not much else you can do

Take a little time off - you'll keep aggravating it otherwise. A little ice for about 20 minutes in the evening works too. Stay away from heat.

Then just don't beat up on yourself. Make some turns, but try to keep jumping & impacts to a minimum. Sux to be hurt when the snow is good, but it sucks even more to cause an injury to get worse...

I did the EXACT same thing about 3 weeks ago. It's either a pulled calf muscle or a bruise calf muscle...you'll know in about a week or 2 cause if its a bruise you'll see it then. Just stretch a lot, and while your skiing you can wrap your calf (not your ankle, cause it'll hurt in your boot) with an ace bandage or athletic tape (I used the new self adhesive ace bandage cause it doesn't have any pins and it's reusable so you're not constantly buying new tape...plus it doesn't stick to your leg hairs in you don't have the foam under-wrap).

Probably not much worse, but can significantly prolong it. But if it's a tear, it just won't heal, and may make it more susceptible to future injuries. I've got a permanent shoulder issue because I couldn't say no - and it occurred in 1992. :(
