Injury just gave depression

On Saturday i broke my hand, and now I'm done for the season. My mountain closes in 2 weeks and I was planning on landing corks by the end of the the season. Now I have to wait a whole nuther year. At least I can still ski my summer setup. But the feeling of catching air and hucking a new trick will have to wait 9 months. It feels like pieces are missing, now that I failed to complete my jump goals for the season. Anyone else had this awful feeling before?

if you're real stressed about it get a bulletproof cast and #shredthegnar

if you're not into that then maybe just close your eyes and pretend

Air bags in the summer m8. Don’t get down on your dobber. At least you have a summer setup, a lot of doods don’t even have that.

Focus on the positives even though it’s tough. That hand will be healed up soon

Unfortunately injuries are a part of the sport man. I tore my ACL and both menisci in December and had to miss the entire year. Gotta keep your head up and come back hungrier

Yeah it sucks getting injured and really sucks to get injured at the end when parties are cranken and summer is starting.

I was crying because i thought I tore my ACL two weeks before end of the season. Turned out just a bad mcl strain. But I felt like shit waiting for swelling to go down and thought I really fucked myself out of a summer for a while.

The biggest thing to focus on (especially when your young and impatient like I was when injured) is take it easy, rest and recover properly. Letting the injury fully heal then properly have a plan with reasonable benchmarks helped me get through it mentally and was ready to hit the mountains when next ski season came around.

Try and get a new hobby or plan out the summer for when your healed up.

Well, think of it this way. You may land a cork at the end of the season but then you have the whole summer to lose the muscle memory and will have to start over. This way, the pressure is off and you can train all summer on tramps etc then really dial it in next year. I remember when I landed my first 360 at the end of a season and it actually kinda sucked because I had to wait until fall to pick it back up again.

Wasn't there a similar thread about this a month ago? It's a hand. You can still ski without it. Fuck.

Lol did the same thing end of November... what a season to miss. But also makes you realize there's more to life, and there will always be next season no matter how shitty or good it is im just happy I can ski next year.

Ya except the bone in my hand that a broke takes up to 6 months to heal, and skiing is one of the main causes of breaking or reinjuring it.

Ya, but I have parents that care about me,

So there is no way they let me ski with a broken hand. Plus, there is no way I go up to the mountain on a spring day and not huck tricks off slushy jumps. I don't have the self contrtol. Meaning I would probably break it more.

You talking about skiers thumb? the bone that connects your thumb to your wrist that gets broken when you put your hand down on your pole while crashing? Dude I know your parents probably still make decisions for you on stuff like that but there are A LOT of people including myself who have skied with skiers thumb. If theres a cast on it and you don't use poles then you're more than ok to ski with that. Try to talk to them about how you will be safe, keep your feet on the ground and just want to get outside with your friends, then fuckin send it when they're not looking.

Tell them you’re just going out to film your homies and take it easy

It's not skiers thumb that's the problem, it's that the bone above the skiers thumb is also completely broken.

Still not a problem if there is a cast on it. Not trying to be rude, but doctors have to tell patients to be overly cautious to protect themselves. Even your parents probably realize that you would be fine to cruise on groomers, despite your teenage angst they're probably smarter than you think. You're not going to hurt it worse if there is a cast on it. I've broken those bones more than once, and skied with it every time. btw your cork attempt was surprisingly close, just go bigger and tuck your knees in more.

Some seasons you'll get your goals, some seasons not. Hopefully the rest of the season was pretty awesome. Always sucks missing the end but at least you got the bulk of it.

If you don't have a backyard setup, build one to hold you over a bit for the off season. Same with if you don't have a trampoline, acquire one.

It sucks, it could be better, it could be worse. Hopefully you had a killer season other than your crash, and next year will be even better.

ya im probably gonna go up and just film my friends, and get stoked for them stomping new tricks for the rest of the season. Might try to get some june skiing in oregon where i would try some new tricks, but ima play it safe until closing at my home mountain.

I broke my hand a couple seasons ago, had surgery 2 plates/8 screws. Wait a week then get out their as long as you have a cast.. the only shitty part is the landing off jumps pumps the blood into ur hand and makes it throb.. also when I broke mine it was mid winter and my cast wouldn't fit under my jacket. Don't let it stop you homie ! only one way to find out is go ski with it see how it feels
