Info on places near Snow Park for next winter?

Hey fellow kiwis, I'm looking for a place to stay for next winter that is walking or bus distance from Snow Park.I would need a place for around mid may to mid august I guess. How hard is it to find a place? Is there like gettho condos they rent for the winter and how much does it usually cost to live near the mountain? I'm basically looking for any info about it or if anyone of you has a place near where I could stay for the summer it would be awesome!
 
hey mate.

skiing in nz is a bit different to the rest of the world. snowpark is at the top of a mountain. while they ahve a few condos they are not the type of place people stay long term.

People live in wanaka. its about a 30min drive from snowpark. you can drive, catch a rather costly bus, or do the bum thing and hitchhike. you can try walk, i wouldn't recomend it.

in terms of finding a place get to wanaka early, check out local papers, or brfreind a girl with rich parents and ask them to buy you a nice house to live in.

 
hahaha ok i will definitly try that but theres no house or anything right besides the mountain that arent super expensive (question mark) There is no way I will have a car so I cant stay 30 min away from the mountain. Thanks for your answers!
 
Its a long empty road from Wanaka to Snow with no houses.

Most people without cars just hitchhike from Wanaka which is (quite) easy if you are heading up Cardrona but a little more difficult if going to Snowpark. Maybe try to sort out a ride with someone heading up SP everyday either by placing an advert when you get to Wanaka or just talking to people up the hill.

Im sure someone will have a spare spot in their car and will want to share petrol. Might only cost you $5 for a guaranteed ride every day.

Snowpark do have a hostel but im not sure you woudl want to be there for a season even if thats an option provided by them. Its at the top of a sketchy dirt road pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

wanakas wheres its at yo! thats where everyone stays, you can find cheap rent and there is a designated hitching spot leading out to snow park... so basically its like a bus stop, you stand there, and drivers with a spare seat are "meant" to pick you up everytime coz its helping the environment, clean green nz...

but yeah, no point trying to stay near snow park, you just wont have fun, wanakas where the vibes are, the nightlife and all the rest!
 
Yeah good posts guys^. You really dont want to stay at Snowpark for an extended period of time-you would be bored to tears. Wanaka is the place to be!
 
More importantly..... why Snow Park? Cardronas park was SO much better than snow parks this year and they actually have a mountain too. Just across the valley so same deal with living and getting there which has been answered pretty well: Hitch up and get a cheap house in Wanaka. Sorted!
 
Oh...I tought snow park had a better park, but I think I'm gonna go to hood instead is it MUCH better to go cardona? Cuz I would be incredibly broke if I end up going to NZ.
