In the process of enlisting into the Army

no but you should convince as many lax bros as possible to join the army with you and then go to iraq in the infantry to use as fodder for roadside IEDs

Respectful. Apparently you have never known anyone who was killed in war, and ill mark this as insult due to ignorance.

Congrats and thank you for choosing to serve our country.

I have a couple friends who are marines, another who is at boot camp, one in the naval academy and a couple doing rotc.

My uncle is a colonel in the army. Whats your education background? If you want to make a career out of it become an officer.

I'm considering joining the the military after i graduate college so I can become an officer.

I'm pretty sure it's Ranger.
Congrats man! From what I hear you're going to have the opposite of fun. Try to enjoy it.

This man is going to fight for your freedom and that's what you say?

Appreciate your service man. If it's allowed throw an NS sticker on your firearm.

this is either sarcasm that's drier than the desert or it's a very, VERY rare kind and straightforward comment from k-rob

I honestly can't tell

Its basic combat training>OSUT (which is infantry training)>Airborne School> RASP (Ranger Assessment and Selection Program). Around 26 weeks of continued training if I end up making it through RASP. Havent signed the paper yet but it looks like ill be leaving in February of next year.

Yeah RASP is 8 weeks of complete hell. My dads good friend has two sons, ones in SF in a-stan right now, the other spent 6 years in the The Regiment. Talked to him on the phone yesterday and pretty much talked me into trying to go Ranger. Im super pumped but its gonna be the toughest thing ive done in life by far.

That's awesome man. It's pretty cool that you have until February to get ready, that'll be a big advantage.
Are you going to try to get 11b or are you looking at something else?

I'm sorry but this concept of fighting the ongoing wars for our freedom is quite the ignorant concept. One direct example is how the ongoing wars have caused us to lose more and more freedoms within our country when we choose to travel somewhere.

I would really prefer 11b, the family friend who was in The Regiment was 11c and said you do the same shit but your ruck is like 70lbs heavier. However what determines it most of the time is your Math score on the ASVAB. I scored an 83 and the average is a 40. So im pretty sure ill be humping the mortar. And yeah once i get my official ship date i need to get into some kickass shape. I need to be able to run 5 miles in 40 minutes, i think around 70 pushups in 2 minutes, forgot the sit ups, and a 12 mile forced ruck march with a 35lb ruck..in like 3 hours.

not gonna be a dick when i say this, but do you really think we wouldn't have been attacked again if we weren't there? And the general concesus from most troops is lets get the job done.

I definitely think we never would have been attacked if we weren't an overly imperialistic nation. The very fact that we commonly refer to the middle east as "there" rather than individual countries with very unique political climates just shows how we marginalize other people's cultures and try to westernize them by "promoting democracy"

And what job are the troops getting done specifically?

In Iraq? Setting up a stable government so the Iraqis can run a country for themselves without a fascist dictator. The liberal media won't show it, but my multiple friends who have been there say the general population of Iraqis love America and the troops there for helping them. The Iraqi Army is starting to stand on there own feat and fight and die alongside American troops for THIER country.
Afghanistan- Fight off an insurgency coming from Pakistan long enough until the ANA and ANP can fight it on their own. Same as Iraq, the media won't show it, but village elders are turning in insurgents at an extreme rate and generally like the roads, schools, hospitals, and other things American troops build for them.

I can't speak for RIP but osit and jump school are easy. I went to benning 11-x with a 96 asvab and went 11-b so don't be too worried. You will have tons of fun (the Ma duece in particular heh heh) and the physical stuff is actually the opposite. It's all in your head, your body can do amazing things when you push it. Best of luck to you and get ft carson or ft drum as your duty station. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING YOU WANT IS IN YOUR CONTRACT!!! any questions, hit me up I'll tell ya everything I can. HOOAH!

I was about to bring up that point but you said it better than I ever could. The last truly constitutional war we fought was WWII. America likes to "do good" because it is a wealthy nation and powerful. Without the continuous wars maybe they would not be seen as so powerful. So in a way, America "does good" to keep an established empire. The underlying problem is that America is not really "doing good" for many countries. Sure, you can take out terrorist organizations but it has not been done without killing innocent civilians.

Well hopefully ill make it through RASP and be in one of the Ranger Batts (hoping for 1/75). But ya my friend who is a cav scout said shooting the mk19, m2, and at-4 was the coolest shit he has ever done. He had the highest PT score so they let him shoot the live round AT-4. My friend is at Ft Carson with the 4th ID, just got back from afghanistan.

wow, cav scout is a pretty cool path. Another little piece of advice, practice shooting a bit if you haven't before. shooting expert and having a high pt score will make basic alot more fun. sorta wierd respect things happen. also, if you want to be a general just do what you're told. again best of luck to you and most of all remember to have fun!

yeah, he really isnt doing a cav scout job though, he said hes more like an infantry unit with cav. But yeah ive been shooting more and im trying to get into "Army" shape. Not going to the gym just doing shit loads of push ups/sit ups.

When do you ship? Benning sucks pretty much every month of the year except OCT.

. Obviously you want to be in good shape, as it makes life a lot easier. 13:30 2mile, 60-70 push ups, 5 pull ups etc... But don't kill yourself on getting in shape right now, try and enjoy some hamburgers and ice-cream.

First you will go to reception at 30th AG for a week to three weeks. This is honestly the worst place on Benning and Sand Hill. It is one giant mind fuck, relax, shit get better when you get to your company (kind of).

Basic is just waking up and keeping your mouth shut. Do your best at everything, take the heat with everyone and don't draw attention to yourself. If you are looking to get in shape it is pretty easy to get all the flutter kicks, push ups, mountain climbers... you want. Remember, you can't smoke a rock.

Your ASVB score has nothing to do with your MOS, you will either be put in a class of all 11B's or 11C's. It just depends on the needs of the Army. When I went through the class ahead of us was all 11Cs, we were all 11Bs. If you are option 40 you will probably be an 11B, even if it means hanging out at 30th for another week.

Enjoy BAC, it is a nice break before you go to RASP.

RASP is hard and seems like a long time, but stay focused. When they do the initial PT test be the first one to take it. Never Quit and do what you are told. Your body can do a lot more then it thinks it can, especially if you make it. You will get through.

Good luck, Basic, BAC, RASP and on to your first deployment and Ranger School is a long pipe line, but the end is worth it. You will have the opportunity to do what few others can do.

yeah went to school, as a combat officer you need to be Tabbed to command. He would have went to RASP II for 21 days then been assigned to one of the 3 Ranger Battalions.

there is one thing that i ask of you; please make a positive impact on the global society. i do not agree with war, the amount of money the military receives, or the idea of globalism, so i will refrain from arguing with you about your decision. just please try to make this world a better place

One of the most respectful comments I have seen from an anti-war person. Props! I always end up going into arguments about war but I like your approach. Just hope you don't get bashed on by people saying, "Oh, you are anti-war. Guess you don't respect our troops".

All Officers that branch infantry (11A) will go to Benning for Infantry Basic Leaders Course and be given the chance to attempt Ranger School. Those that graduate from Ranger School earn the Ranger Tab, and are Ranger qualified, regardless of which unit they get assigned to. The term Ranger is reserved for those who are in the 75th.

Don't get trigger happy, too many folks in the military seem to be giving us a bad rap lately

the reason why i put that in there, is because after i left the initial comment, i went back to the nsg forum and saw that Lax_Bro40 created the "Liberals and Hipsters are ruining America" thread... hence the reason why i called him an ignorant fuck. but really, i don't want to argue about policy or world views on this thread. i respect the decision he has made; surely it is a life changing decision, and not an easy one to make. i respect that he is doing what he thinks is best for the world, even though i don't agree with it. i also respect that he is accepting that fact that it is likely that he could lose his body or his life to protect my freedom in which i could not live with out, the democracy that i love, and the country that i will always stand behind.

Not even that hard I've run 6 miles in 41 minutes, have done 50 in a minute, sit ups and walking is easy as hell.

You'll be fine, but regardless sounds sick congrats.

Have fun being the puppet of a money-hungry government. You say the cause is noble and that it's all about giving them democracy and peace... However, isn't it odd that every single one of those middle eastern countries that have military presence in them also have an incredible amount of oil and other resources of great economic value, whereas other countries with huge conflicts and problems especially in Africa that have no economic worth get no help ?

Hey, heres some advice to you: Do this country some good and kill your pretentious self. I could not care less in how you do it, just do it for the common good of man. Thank you.

Why you would do this at such a time I wonder. My brother has been in for 5 years, and thankfully is getting out this summer. Be prepared to suck up and kiss ass daily, that's all I can say.

I didnt know a-stan had huge amounts of oil, must of missed that one. And you must be very ignorant to believe if there wasn't men overseas right now doing things you couldnt even imagine, that there would have never been another attack like 9/11.

I feel every man in the United States should serve the country that has offered them so much. I also believe our generation is full of a bunch of fuck ups and owe our grandfathers generation some respect for what they went through during their 18-30 ages. I really want to serve my country (not the government) I hate listening to old fucks who cant speak english teach me a formula i will never use in law school.

show me the economic value in afghanistan that the US wants so bad to control please. i just spent a year there walking around and i can tell you its a big shit hole. now that i think about it your right though...maybe the opium and hash...or not

ill have you know, i did score a 303 on the APFT back in march.. and that was the day before my hip surgery... just saying :) gotta beat that my friend.
