How is your relationship with your in laws?

If you're not married (which I realize most of you aren't), then I'm talking about your gf/bfs parents.

Do you get along? Are you close? Do they treat you like a daugher/son or do you bump heads?

Also-- do your own parents know and/or have a relationship with your significant others' parents?
 
I get along really well with my in-laws. My parents are pains in the ass though and my wife is not a very big fan. If she can get out of family events, she does. And I don't blame her. My family is a shitshow.
 
I'm only 1 month into this whole marriage thing but everyone seems to be getting along just fine, the dads have even become decent friends

My only complaint is that the mother in law is constantly thinking my wife is pregnant, headache...pregnant! stomach ache...pregnant! paper cut...pregnant!

Brother in law is chill, although very controlling and crazy.

Sister in law is chill. Although her boyfriend is annoying af.

Her grandparents are nice people.

Great grandparents are nice, although very stuck up.

I don't get along with them well at all I guess.
 
Not married but we've been dating for almost 3 years now. I havent met my bf's mother and I dont plan on it. From what he and his sisters (I'm close with them as well) have told me, she's bat shit crazy like my mother is so that's not happening. However, he and my father get along famously.
 
I love my girlfriends parents. They are honestly just like a second set of people who care for you! (Im in college btw not HS, the relationship is more serious)
 
My girlfriends parents and I get along famously. Her mom messages me constantly on facebook to see how my day is going, and her dad just got diagnosed with cancer and just bought me a $300 watch he sent me 2 days ago..

hahaha, bummer. My MIL and FIL hate me, but my brother in law is one of my favorite people.
 
Father inlaw is good, drink beers and shoot shit all day.

Mother inlaw is mostly good, but can be bossy and always lets you know the best way to do things are the way she does them and the things they have are always the best.

Sister inlaw is pretty good, a bit aloof but good.

i get along with my inlaws ok. we're not BFFs but have never butted heads either. the only time i've really been annoyed with the MIL was during wedding planning stages but really only one particular time i can think of. her family is more likely to take us on (mostly) free vacations- which is cool because it's cheap and usually somewhere interesting, but also annoying because a chunk of my limited vacation time is spent with her family most years.

she gets along with my parents ok also. i will say my parents are a little weird- very nice people but maybe slightly senile for being in their mid to late 60s. their house doesn't have air conditioning so we try to never visit in the summer because wifey does not appreciate heat.

her pops was an alcoholic selfish prick, now hes a sober selfish prick with cancer

her dad's parents are crazy, controlling and selfish. They base her success simply on what school she graduates from. Constantly reminds her that her cousin graduated from law school, even though she has a masters as well. (Where her dad gets it from)

She lives with me basically at my parents and they get along great! My parents love her.

Her one brother is chill, a deadbeat, but he is chill.

She gets along great with my brothers and sisters.

My in-laws are very nice to me. This year when I went out to Colorado to visit them they took me to the mountains and bought me and my wife each lift tickets for 2 days at winter park. We stayed with them in their tiny condo in beaver village and get along fine despite the close quarters. My parents get along great and would probably hang out with my in-laws if they lived close by. BTW I have been married for 7 years. Be thankful if you have nice in-laws.
 
haha I bump heads occasionally. Its not my attitude, its just I do things that my parents and some family members don't approve of at all.

My girlfriends parents are nice to me and I have never had any bad confrontations.

However my parents hate that I smoke weed. They fucking hate it, I have been threatened to not be allowed ever again in their house if I am caught. I have never been caught with weed in the house at all before. I never even bring bud over there. All I have done is tell them I still smoke and they get all mad about it. Its for sure my dad's new wife and her views on cannabis.

My sister absolutely hates weed. Strait up bud natzi, and thinks its disgusting. She doesn't know I smoke and she says some of the stupidest shit like weed causes cancer, brain damage and all that other bullshit and I fucking hate it. But I don't think she should smoke so I don't correct her. She then tries to have drinking games and stuff and rarely has the chance to get alcohol. She even snuck off with champaign from my parents house. I don't get her reasoning at all. She ratted out my cousin for drinking when she was doing the exact fucking same thing.

I never sneak alcohol from my parents. I could but I don't because I don't like doing that stuff. I can't stand how people are so OK with alcohol but weed is like a devils drug or some shit. They are both drugs.

Been dating my GF for almost 2 years, and I get along pretty well with her parents. Just went to a baseball game with her dad and my dad yesterday. That was fun. I think I get along better with her dad because he's in a house of all girls, 2 daughters and his wife. He is enjoying having a guy to talk to about sports and man things.

I think it helps that they like me. In the past I dated a girl for 2 years and her parents seemed to like me but always made remarks about me being Jewish. They did live in a neighborhood that was still segregated by the main road. (Side story, apparently a black family tried to move across the road, 2 months later the house was burned down with them sleeping inside.) They would always make shit remarks making up names and shit for me. Looking back, it was pretty fucked. That's really the only bad experienced of had with GFs parents.

My girlfriends parents live in a different hemisphere, which is nice. They're good cunts, though. Get along great.
 
ehhh, after 4 years we're pretty much content to pretend to get along well but i don't terribly enjoy their company and i don't think they like me too much anymore. nice people who mean well, but way too judgmental and they don't understand why i prefer not to go to every family event, which happen at least once a month and involves no less than 30 people that i have next to no relationship with.

My girls parents and I get along okay, but they have this problem with me where I'm banging their daughter.
 
I've been dating my girlfriend for almost three years and I love her parents.

Her mom and step dad took us to Mexico last year for spring break. Her mom is a teacher with a few degrees and like 6 teaching endorsements so she's always giving me great advice with my future.

Her dad, who lives in Toronto and we live in Montana, is my favorite person ever. Unfortunately I've only got to meet him a few times. He loves to ski, so we have fun shredding together. My girlfriend's stepmom is really awesome too. I met her three years before I met my girlfriend. She is from the Dominican Republic. My girlfriend and I are meeting her parents in the DR in January to go on a two week surf trip.

Both sets of parents love me and I love both of them. It's really cool being that close to her family.

all my now mother-in-law had to say was "well, as least he is safe"

My brothers fiance is a stuck up cunt who thinks shes amazing at everything because she got a 1500 sat. to describe her ego, she thinks she couldve been a pop singer even though shes balding and barely above an 8. She watched the documentary trancendant man and now believes that cyborgs are going to be around in 20 years.

One time at dinner i described to her why the concept of free will would require the brain to do supernatural things and she straight up flipped out and asserted to me that if what i said was true then you would be able to predict exactly what people were going to do because of their (im not making this up), RISK FACTORS. Since then she and my brother have told me to never bring it up and she asserts to me that she understands my point of view but "doesnt agree with it". She doesnt have even a basic understanding of my pov and is just sticking her head in the sand like a stupid bitch. I used to think sats meant something, but if she actually got a 1500 then they must mean jack shit, because she is as dumb and self affirming as anybody i have come across.
 
My brother-in-law and his wife are super chill, we get on well and go on vacations together. Same with my sister-in-law.

My husbands parents on the other hand are a different story. His mom has serious mental health issues and it's impossible for me to have a relationship with her (though I've tried). His dad is OK and I get along with him fine but his step-mom is a crazy bitch who no-one likes. There's also a young (17yo) step-brother who's a spoilt shit.

Lucky for me we live 1000's miles away and my husband does everything he can to avoid speaking to his family at the best of times so it's never really an issue.

He gets on with my family great and my parents treat him better than they do myself and my brother!
