Improve getting ready at car during unideal weather

thanks for the reply, this is basically what we do except we do it outside of the car. All have boot bags, don’t wear cotton etc. solid shit tho. We are just tall kids (shortest is 5 11 tallest is 6’4) so we don’t wanna change in the car but I’m sure that’s what we are gonna have to do

Drive in ski boots pussy.

On a side note, a guy once asked me to help him jump his car after I already had my boots on and I almost hit every car in the immediate vicinity trying to turn my truck around. I got a free lift ticket out of the exchange so I'd say it was worth it.

idk man, slipping boots on when its pounding snow just hits way different. idk how anyone doesnt get fired up by that

what? thats the best feeling, freezing rain.. fuck that, and just cold and wind.. but snow? BRING IT

Snow also means its not -20c , so if it snows, every scenario is awesome.

I prefer to get ready at the car even before all the covid stuff. I'm just wierd and don't like to spend time in the lodge any more than I have to.

I put everything on at home. The helmet, gloves, and stuff goes in the bootbag that gets set with my skis in my Ford Escape second row of seats that are folded down. The boots go under the heat vents on the passenger side. I wear regular socks. I don't get hot on the way there. I don't put on the outer top layer until I get there. When I arrive I take off the regular socks and dry/warm my feet under the vent - so no trying to jam a sweaty foot into my dry ski socks. I have this foam yoga mat thingy that I lay down by the car for putting on /taking off boots. I just suck it up when its really cold and just move quickly.

I keep a big green Stanley thermos full of hot tea and my lunch in the car. (The resort is so small you don't really need to take anything on the hill with you unless you're in the park all day. Several people bring their lunches and camp chairs and set up at the top of the park)

I totally have fun with wearing my my ski stuff while getting gas or going to the grocery store on the way home. The looks i get are funny.

I have one of these
https://dryguy.implus.com/products/portable-boot-dryers/dryguy-travel-dry-dx

which I stick in my boots on the drive there and then they are warm and easy to put on. I also put them in for the drive back so the liners don’t smell like ass and they are dry the next day.

drive in snow pants, use a super light tee base layer and throw on the Fleece and hoody and helmet in the parking lot. Don’t really use the heat in the car but def don’t recirculate.

never ever gotten changed in the lodge past the age of like 8

Get all your stuff on at home and drive with the windows open

Breaking News: Car crashes on 95 up 300% as skiers gear up at home, and attempt to drive in ski boots.

I've changed in my undies in sub 20 degree weather, it ain't so bad, plus you get this effect:

Bonus for Calvin & Hobbs!

I've seen this argument on numerous resort FB page comment sections. I seriously don't see the issue.

Boot liners ride with me in the front seat getting toasty the whole time. I get my skis out and all my gear prepped before popping a chair, snagging my liners, and throwing my boots on. The issue I've ever experienced with this is getting the liners a little too warm and making my feet immediately sweat in super cold weather.

. Maybe im old school but you and your crew should be ready and walking to the lift exactly 2 min after you throw the car in park. Thats the benchmark, you all should be like the formula One pit crew guys but with boots instead of tires. Dont even worry about bucking that shit, you can do it in the lift line.

I hate when people take forever to get ready at the car. I'm usually good to go in like 2 minutes since I wear my pants and most base layers in the car. So it just jacket, boots, helmet, gloves and I'm off. Usually do a half ass buckle for my boots at the car just to keep my shit from jangling around then fix it up in the lift line. I get super antsy if I am standing at the car waiting for other people.

The solution to this is to drink a beer while you wait for everyone. It is almost impossible to be antsy while consuming a beverage, it takes just the right amount of time, and you will feel great as you roll up to the lift to try and get that lifties number in full mask.

damn, people fr get ready at the lodge? That sucks.

But honestly I put on everything except boots, helmet, and jacket before the drive up and all my friends do too. Bump some music while you get the rest on then shut the car off and get up.

Getting ready at the car when you just got there is no issue. Now fumbling for your keys in your pocket and trying to unbuckle your boots as they’re frozen onto the shell with frozen ass hands while the painful wind is whipping at Mach 1? Now that’s always a pain.

Even a half hour drive with snowpants on is too much. Either you sweat too much or the windshield fogs too much. Fuck I don't even wear my ski socks in the car, I'll change those in the lot too. Other than that I agree with you. It's -20 c/ -4f out? Fuck it, takes 5 minutes and you'll warm up if you ski hard enough.

To the op- challenge your friends not to bitch out and you'll be surprised by how long you can chill in the lot with just a t-shirt on.

what the fuck kinda pants u rocking? i wore my insulated pants on a 6 hour drive a few times last season

This actually brings up a good point. NEVER put your boots in the back of a pickup or in a roofrack for the ride up, even in a bag. Its best to keep them in the warm passenger area. If you ever stay at a cabin, never put them in the unheated ski storage area either. Putting on ice cold boots is hell and should be avoided at all cost.

I used to deal with that at the ski shop haha, see a pair of boots one night and the customer is back in the next morning complaining because they can't get their boots on. Surprise surprise, they were left in the car over night. I normally tuck mine under the passenger side foot well.

I will say I'm a lot quicker at booting up in the parking lot than I thought I would be. Slip on shoes are key for a quick transition. I also have one of those space blankets, which will work well to stand on if there is a bunch of snow.

I could drive hours in my bibs that are just a shell, but something like my spyder pants with insulation, hell no, also heated seats and working heater no need, plus only jerry takes more than two minutes to gear up? Takes me under 10 to park , smoke up ,gear up and walk 500’ to put skis to snow.

An integral part of the gear up process is smoking, this is why I make sure to get a practice session in every night to reduce time wasted ?

?? My local resorts a 3.25 he drive, I smoke 4 blunts on the way, 1 in the lot, and if wind permits, I’ll toke on the lift, I don’t drink anymore so I gotta maintain ?

We saw a guy with a crock pot full of chili at Vail and a yeti cooler full of beer and la croix. He was crushing it.

Hell yeah that sounds so bomb. Chili would be clutch. I saw a guy at a-basin make a frozen pizza on some covered portable stove. I was mad jelly it looked amazing

Op this isn't a difficult concept. Wear all clothing except your outerwear. That's easy for any length of driving. Then when you get there, toss on your coat, slip into your snow pants and then put on your boots. Stand on your shoes to not get your feet wet in snow. Moccasins are perfect for this. I always have my feet outside the car when putting on boots. You can use the trunk too to sit down if you don't have a front seat. Then feel free to hop back in your car to put on your hat/helmet/etc and get audio set up if necessary. If you arrive early before lifts start, you can take your sweet ass time.

It's really only a problem if it's nuking out, and even then, just throw your boots on quickly and no issues.

Any drive under an hour, wear snow pants. Anything more, it's too hot I agree.

The only times I've ever geared up in a lodge is when friends are renting shit and they have to rent a locker. Changing in a locker room is hella nice but not necessary. 99% of the time I'll be at my car, regardless of the model or amount of people.
