This is a regional based thread, but I feel it needs to be in the main forums for visibility.

The governor of NY state proposed a tax on ski tickets, rentals and lessons. This is ridiculous if you ask me.

Go there, read up, and if you live in New York, please write to the leaders and make sure they know that this matters to some people.
 
Theyre just doing it because the NY ski scene would be such an easy target, show them you arent~
 
But there isn't like a fucking bowling or baseball or sailing or jesus i don't know, mini golf tax? SERIOUSLY? What the hell New York? Just because the economy has gone to hell doesn't mean we should target ONE form of recreation and leisure. I for one go skiing to forget about all the shitty stuff going on around me, which from time to time has to deal with finances. So let's tax the ONE thing i like doing. SUUUUUUUUUPER cool New York. Not like I've constantly supported NY mountains or anything. Empire state my asshole.

Thats bullshit and I ride for free! guess it means that everyone from NY will have to go to the inferior mtns of VT.... oh wait I almost forgot VT is already 10 times sicker and most mtn are cheaper too my bad
 
thats pretty fucked up so much better things to tax ex: more mainstream sports could bring in a ton more money but watever the skiing in new york is already way over priced for the shitty mountains we have here
 
I expressed my feelings in an email to the governor. Although the whole time I was giggling like a little girl thinking about the recent snl skits.

cause politicians are too busy doing "important" things in their city offices and apartments to realize what beauty and good skiing ny has to offer. they just think "o well i don't ski, and i don't know too many people who do, so let's tax those who are enjoying the gift nature has given to our state because they're keeping the sport alive." fuckem

although this is utterly ridiculous, I'm not surprised at all... this isn't only bad for the NY skiers, but all the NY ski areas as well. Agh, be sure to send an e-mail, it's the only chance we have to make this right.
 
oh how i absolutly love living in new york. all the more reason to move. as if 8.75 % percent sales tax isnt enough. fucking ass holes
 
Blind people can ski too. Idk why he has to be such an ass hole.

They want to tax everything in NY now. Our budget defecit is really rediculous.
 
If you are in NY, be sure to send your feelings directly to the Governor. There is a link on that website to contact him. It is a simple form.

It's the only chance we have at showing our side.
 
Another reason why the West is better. Jk Jk. That is serious bullshit though. If they are going to tax you guys make sure they tax every other form of sports/recreation.
 
complain about paying a few extra dollars, or lose important state functions. There is a 16 billion dollar gap in the budget for next year. Some stuff will have to get taxed that wasnt previously.

Given current circumstances its not a bad idea considering how many people go skiing. I know at holiday valley (wny) we get alot of canadians that come down for the weekend so why not, its a pretty smart move for them.

Wow some assholes actually said 'YES' we should be taxed. That is just some large amount of BS. Seriosuly there is already nothing good about living in this state and I for one will be moving out when done with college. Do they hate their population that much that they tax every little thing.

New York is so fucking smart. Create an excise tax and hurt an entire industry within your state. Yeah new york you and your fucking unions and high taxes are why all your jobs moved to my state. Thats the biggest load of shit. I say you guys have a fucking ski rebellion(like the whiskey rebellion).
 
The budget deficit is caused by their irresponsible spending and shitty financial management on their part. NYS already has some of the highest taxes in the country.

It may be a few extra dollars, but when is it the point where there are just too many taxes? What is your distinction?

I grew up in Buffalo, and the property taxes along with sales taxes are excessively high in New York State.

 
i dont have to buy passes or anything but this is totally lame. i cant even see how they would say they might tax that stuff
