Impact shorts

I am trying to be proactive this year and prevent injuries before they happen. I'm looking for some impact shorts but I am not interested in spending 120 on a pair of POC's. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good brand that is low profile yet effective. And also does anyone here wear a VPD vest? and if so what is your experience with it?
 
I do have the POC 2.0 impact shorts, and while the price is steep it's highly worth it. Nothing else comes close to having the same amount of coverage, and I don't feel like much other padding compares to VPD.

However if you're absolutely pressed on cash, I'd check out the RED shorts or Demonsnow shorts. I've heard pretty good things about both of them.
 
The Red ones with the D30 foam are pretty good.

If anything, they keep my arse warm on icey chairlifts.
