Image stablization and f4..

I'm thinking of gettng the 70-200 f4 for taking surfing pics except im wondering about the IS.. its an extra like 600 for the IS is it worth it? How imperitive is to have with that lense? I mean its a fast lense.. Also this lense would be fast enough right? The 2.8 is alot more money. Any info you have on this lense in general would help me

I'd skip on the is and just get a tripod. I shoot surfing with a 300mm f5.6, no tripod and usually 400 speed film and it's fine on sunny days. A tripod is always a good idea though.
