ok, so today i got home from school and decided id whip out my mountain bike for the first ride of the season, so i pumped up my tires, tensioned my wheels, lubed my drivetrain, and adjusted my brakes. so then i went out for a few runs down the course i built in the woods in my backyard. i took a few runs, then, pedaling up the hill, my chain just shattered, and i have an old jank 7 speed drivetrain, so they dont make compatible chains ne more, and im dead broke, so basically, if i wanna ride my bike again this season, i have to drop like 250 bucks minimum to replace my drivetrain

i have a jamis with a manitou fork, avid discs, ryno lites, and some really old jank parts, and i only whipped out the bike cuz i ran out of skiing money

ok, so why dont you buy a long chain, and a chain breaker, for a total of.. say, 30 bucks, and shorten the chain to the desired lenght :O?

for the same reason that u cant use an 8 speed chain on a 9 speed cassette, the chain has to be a specific width

IM confused, you need a special chain or just a derailer, those arent that expensive.
