I'm Pissed

So I'm on the East coast and as everyone knows the winter here has been nonexistent recently. But here's the story: I work at a local ski shop chain and we get some hookups with the local mountains. One of which we get a pass for weekdays and all nights. So we pay like $80 and we can ski at this place. Today I got my pass pulled after two laps. You are probably wondering why. I was sitting on my poles while riding the lift.

Is that not the most retarded shit you have ever heard?

I literally sat on my poles for my first ride, like I always do, and the liftie at the bottom was like don't do that. It could tear the cushion on the chair. So like halfway up i put my poles under my legs and I then reach the top and the liftie at the top is like, "what did that guy at the bottom say?" and I said, "ummm dont sit on your poles?" then he was like, "what were you just doing?" I said kinda dumbfounded, "I was sitting on my poles." He was like, "yea so I'm going to pull your pass, you can get it in the office tomorrow."

Like other than the guy at the bottom there was no warning. I was expecting a smack on the wrist like, hey man if i catch you with your poles under your legs I will pull your pass. But nope he went 0-100 real quick and pulled it.

Newschoolers, I am so livid right now I just need to rant. I'm currently sucking up to them so I can get it back. But it has to go through both my employer and the GM of the mountain. So worst case: I lose my pass, and I get fired. Anyways thanks for listening.

Is it the evil Vail Resorts Yellow Jackets??

Just kidding. That is beyond stupid. 9/10 skiers I ride with put their poles under their butts. Seriously, that is unfathomable that they would pull your pass for that.

I mean what else are you suppose to do? You're not suppose to have your pole straps on, they want you to hold them? Silly for sure

But, dont over react, go in, be nice, explain the situation, you'll be fine.

Yea I went in and asked what happens next and tried to be as polite as possible. And they explained it pretty well. But I'm still gonna send them a follow up email.

Were you sitting with your baskets under you? I don’t understand how poles would tear the seat…

Eheath is drunk and can't read this right. Also, total bs move but at least you can get your pass back.

Lifties be like

Skiing at centers is a compromise sometimes. I do recommend you make a appeal and bribe or beg to get your pass back.

When people see you dressed like a park rat with twin-tips they get way more aggressive. If you were a 40 year old racer-dad they wouldn't bat an eye. Old people are starting to view park skiers the same as snowboarders.

I've been completely ignored by people on the chairlift because I wear XL clothes and my goggles are under my helmet.

Yeah don't look like a fuck stick OP

I actually cant believe that a lift operator can be such a fuckin asshole like that. First of all At my mountain EVERYONE sits on their poles with no problem. Once you get your pass back you should give us the resort name so we can all send them emails of how pissed we are about their service. Dont give us the name until you get the pass back

A. No one will give a fuck about some shitbird's who will never visit their area sending them a poorly composed e-mail complaining about their rules.

B. Who the fuck cares what people do at your mountain. If a company wants to make a rule that they believe may save them money down the line, that is their perogative.

Seriously not hard to just do what the fuck your told.

yeah that is some big big bullshit, the other day ski patrol almost took my poles away at loon because i didnt have baskets on them, like you know how they come with removable basekts? i kept them off because i think they look better and the guy was like "youre going to impale yourself" put baskets on those poles or they are gone like wft? ive never heard anyone say that before. I mean i get the guy is just doing it for my own safety but he could have been a little more cool about it and i think the chances of being impaled by a ski pole are pretty slim.

This thread is full of a bunch of shit heads that think they are gods gift to earth. Go fuck off to another sport.

Believe it or not mountain operators do care about customer complaints and if they get enough of a certain complaint they might reconsider the rule

My brother sprayed this all over his school (he's a HS freshman) and they evacuated the school because they thought it was a gas leak.

Mountain operators also care about saving money on maintenance and repairs. If they can go a bit longer without having to replace cushions on their lifts, and if they think this rule does that for them, then so be it. I'm sure they could care less about some shitbirds who will never ski their area complaining that some dude basically on a comped pass got it pulled for a day. For not following their rules.

People have something agaist park skiers. My gear isn't even all that baggy but when me and the homeboys are respectfully waiting in the lift line the traffic director will pass us up over and over again. The line is seperated into for different paths and he'll usually let the fourth group go, then third, then second, and then the singles. Then the cycle restarts at 4th row. We got passed over 3 times, and on the 4th time it's empty so we just move forward. The guy yells at us to wait our turn...the only other person in the line was one single.

Lol I shit you not. I'm about to type up an email just saying i did it out of habit. So we will see soon how it is. I'll keep yall updated what happens after I send it. But today I told my boss about it and he was like wtf, I'll do whatever in my power to help. So good news, not fired.

come on bro, have some empathy. that IS some serious bullshit! even if your opinion is that people should always "do what the fuck they are told" (which is kind of a shitty opinion), surely you can understand why this kid is pissed. that post made you sound jaded and unfriendly, which i am sure is not the case in the real lifes.

I'm not jaded or unfriendly. Just raised properly. And know how to follow rules laid down by management of places I am a patron of. It's not a hard thing to do.

Ya I feel you, I ride no baskets a lot too and they hassle me. I understand the hassle but at the same time if I'm going to get impaled its going to suck whether we have baskets on or not.

I have never seen a story of someone getting impaled before

Yeah for real if your pole has the time to flip around while attached to your wrist and ends up impaling you what is a basket with about an inch and half diameter going to do like yeah it might stop it a little but that shit is still gonna go in really deep. Believe it or not the ski patrol guy said he's seen someone impaled so idk but the way I see it is that if you are getting pissed at people not have baskets on their poles wtf are you gonna do about all the people on the mountain with no fucking helmets, I'm no scientist but it seems like a severe brain injury while skiing is a lot more likely to happen than being impaled by a god damn ski pole.

that sucks man. the worst thing that has happened to me was that i did not have the bar down and the liftie almost popped a tit yelling at me to put it down

While I do think this is absofuckinglutley retardo, go in with a cool head and state some facts. Like EHeath said

-Before talking with them, watch people loading the lifts and get an idea of how many people do what you did. Give the mtn some perspective.

-loading with pole straps is 'dangerous' and cause you to get pulled/whipped off the chair.

-So if your supposed to hold them w/o straps, you have the possibility to drop them/have them blown out of your hands and onto the fellow paying riders below.

-Say that by sitting on them with the GRIPS behind you and under your ass causes no adverse effects to the seats.

-Say that you feel they overreacted and if this the resorts policy, they should really post it somewhere. b/c most people sit on their poles.

I think this is kinda like the rules at resorts where you have to put the safety bar down or take your backpack off before you get on the lift. They aren't directed at the experts, they're to protect beginners from getting stuck on the lift or falling out or whatever. I was riding the lift the other day with some dude who came out from the midwest for the holidays and put his poles under his leg, he couldn't get them out in time at the top and rode the bullwheel and fell on his face trying to jump out after the chair stopped. Maybe this rule is just to keep inexperienced jerrys from sticking their poles underneath their leg basket first and then tearing up the seat (which is probably a pain in the ass to fix)

wtf? poles look retarded without baskets

That might be the shittiest most narrow minded thing Ive ever read.

Losing your pass for sitting on your poles is bull shit, make some polite noise about it ya dig?

Yea I had some guy yell at me for that but I just kinda said shutup to him and all of the lifties on my mountain all do cocaine so they don't remember you by the time you get back down.

Thad nuts, after four years of skiing at the same hill there is always a lifty who would check our passes every single run. Annoying as fuck cause we knew he recognized us. Finally this past weekend we shared a moment when he saw an Asian chick almost poke my eye out with a pole so I think we are good now. BUT then comes in a new fucked who comes up to me asking to see my pass, and I'm cool about it but he then tries to strike up a conversation explaining that he profiles people and only checks people passes who look like they wouldn't pay for one (I wasn't even wearing park shit, skinny ish pants with a Patagonia shell.)

A lot of them are dicks, many others are chill. It's defiantly a hit or miss with good lifties at any mountain

i got the armada legion poles, i think they look better without the baskets but thats just my opinion its really not that big of a deal ill use the baskets i just think its stupid that the guy made me put em on.

Yes, because you have never broken any rules ever in your whole life?

It's one thing to break a rule, it's another to cry when you get called on it.

ikr fuck loon i was there 2 weeks ago putting some snow on a tiny sidehit because they have literally one five foot jump, when three ski patrol goons pulled up on me, kicked me out and stomped the fuck out of my jump.

Just as a tip for anyone having issues with the lifties. $15 buys you 24 classic krispy kreme donuts. At the beginning of the season buy donuts, get them to put them into 4 boxes of 6. Take them around to the various lifts. Now for the rest of the season the lifties will remember you, and you won't ever get hassled for small stuff.

oohh man yea I hate that vibe they send off… it's basically called taking your job too seriously

don't worry it happens and don't take anything like that personally, even when it happens often

So good news today. After sending possibly the most kiss-ass email I've ever sent in my life, they decided to give back my ski pass. So I'm gonna go back tomorrow grab my pass and take a few laps during my lunch break. Just gotta remember to not sit on my poles on their lift lol

Also read like the first two sentences of this and was like, yo thats a great idea. Because Krispy kreme can always put a smile on my face. Then i read take them to the various lifts and i was like, well that would be less for me. But I should do that for sure. I'm always tryna be on everyone's good side.

Last season I broke the baskets off of my poles by accident. I was too lazy to put new ones on and I thought no baskets looked cooler and felt better. I skied at least 10 times after that with no problem. Then, one day, a liftie stopped the lift while I was loading to take my poles becuase they were "unsafe." Later that day when I tried to get them back the head of lift operations yelled at me for endangering myself and other skiers, all becuase my poles had no baskets. He almost never ended up giving me my poles back, but at the end of it all he ended up giving me baskets and gave them back to me.
