So I got a call from my Staff Sergeant last night around 830 pm that said to start packin cus I will be flying out tomorrow morning for 2 months to do humanitarian relief down there.

see the Marine Corps does do a shit ton more then jus blow shit up.

i was thinking i would like to go down and help out. unfortunetly i have school to do and no money to get there. i know poor excuse...

It is not the enlisted man who fucks anything up, as I am sure you know there is a chain of command. No Sgt. ever started a war. Props to you though man and thanks for serving!

And the military has a continuous humanitarian mission, my Psychology instructor did nothing but airlift food and clothes to poor parts of the Pacific for 3 years. The military is not the government.

Thanks for all the positive support guys. Def will take a metric shit ton of pics while I am there. the only down side is that we are going during the winter and its still like 80 degrees down there, no skiing for me....... by the time I get back it will be april and the east coast season will be done. oh well there are more important things in life then skiing.
 
the military is an instrument of policy makers, it doesnt make policy.

why do you think soldiers are issued extra rations of candy bars before they're deployed? so they can give them to little kids. gtfo america's men in uniform are some of our best.

If i'm not mistaken...arabia is a country? as in saudi arabia? doesn't the saudi part just refer to the ruling family, and that changes when dynasties change?
 
but going to war isn't an 'illegal order' You sign on that dotted line, you have too go. You (not implyingYOU personelly) knew full well you would get sent to the fron't lines, an illegal order would have to be straight up execution. Or many other things a long those lines.

No. Saudi Arabia is a country. Saudi does not refer to the ruling family. The current king is named Abdullah ibn Abdul Aziz - not of the Saud family.

Why do people have to announce to everyone else that theyre doing charitable work? I mean, if youre going to do it, good for you, but do you really need to tell everyone so they can all tell you what a nice person you are?

Nevertheless, this whole thing started because you were trying to call down some genuinely nice guy who is going to Haiti to help out with the crisis they're having and just wanted to let people know what he's going to be doing for the next two months. You had to go ahead and be an asshole and try to state something that doesn't even apply to this thread.

I'm going there at the beginning of febuary with the red cross. gonna be gnarly. only going for 2 weeks though.
