So as predicted, our resort shut yesterday. I'm now officially unemployed and broke in a foreign country. Thankfully it's Canada, probably the most beautiful country in the world- so there's worst places to be stranded. But right now there's about 200 people looking for a job in a small BC town right now.

No point really going home to the UK as it's not exactly be easy to find a job there either. That place is on a bigger lockdown than here.

Time to start selling by body on the streets

do you have a car? maybe check if amazon locations are around and hiring?

just spitballing. sorry for your situation, i wish you the best

Thanks bud.

Sadly no vehicle. I was saving for a dope truck to cart the bikes around, but no longer.

Nah we're in the middle of nowhere (Invermere, BC - About 3.5hrs west of Calgary), there's absolutely no work in town as you can imagine really.

Good luck man. If it helps I'd take an hour each day to sit down, no phone, and draft up plans / budgets / jot down thoughts. Other than that one hour, probably best to just chill and get outside. Otherwise these situations can consume you.

Sorry to hear and it leaves you and many others in a shitty situation. Maybe you can find a way to get to Calgary where there are better odds of finding a job. Best of luck

For once, trvp_angle is right. Canada has a logging industry and one of the things that need to be done is tree planting. Not the most fun work but if you visas good for a while it be a good job. Plus you'd be in the woods away from people and the sickening. I have no idea of any company in Canada though.

I live south of calgary in red deer and everyone is getting laid off definitely suggest lying low as long as you can. Canada has an amazing Employment insurance program that might benefit you. Although you aren't a citizen so no guarantee??‍♂️ best of luck

Sell your ski gear or move to another town, you child.

a: who’s gonna buy ski gear right now?

b: who’s gonna hire anyone in any town right now?

honestly how dumb can someone be?

I like it. Sweet idea man.

I'm gonna ride out the next week or two at home. But similar situation. Ski areas are shut, everything shut and nobody has a job.

If craiglist casual encounters id be like "yo give me money, down for anything, need to pay rent".

Im trying to see if amazon is hiring close to me. I lnow theyre def hiring a bunch of people

You’re not that far from Calgary but good luck getting a job now. Everyone is getting laid off or working from home. So honestly could hit up some camps up north or delivery in the city now that people aren’t stoked to leave their homes. Or yeah tree planting elsewhere in the province. Lord knows trees are getting harvested for all the TP people are hoarding.

But honestly probably better to be unemployed in your own country eh? Shits gonna stay bad for months I’d probably try to get home even if the UK is a shit show right now.

Summit and Brinkman Reforestation are two really good companies to look into, I have a few friends who have tree planted with them and have said good things about their multiple summers.

get a job at a supermarket. they all freaking out right now

have an interview for a security job down the road. A jerbs a jerb. Hoping to get it even though not exactly the job I want to be doing. Gotta pay rent and have food and stuff

Like people were saying planting is one of your best bets but it’s even up in the air at the moment. I heard from a reliable source the ministry were having meetings this week discussing the possibility of planting season. Fruit picking in the Okanagan is something else I’d look into but could be dicey as well. It’s too late to apply for fire fighting with the ministry but you could look into contract fire fighting as they’re speculating it'll be a bad fire year. I’m sure it’d be competitive as well but if there’s a local cash job page that could be worth a look too. Best wishes dude!! I’m bailing outta B.C. to go back home to the east coast so if you wind up on the other side of the country I gotta a helping hand to lend hahahha

don't bother coming to calgary now. you wont get a job. gold exploration will be big this summer. not that it helps you now.

family's where parents are still working will need babysitters. you'll probably have better luck in a bigger town like Calgary but it's worth a shot when you're in Invermere.

Update: flying back home to the shitty UK. Took quite literally the last seat on the last plane outta here. Gutted to say the least, but it is what it is.

switzerland is the most beautyful country in the world. Germany and austria are tied for

2nd. Canadas mountains are pretty, but nothing is prettier than the alps and summer glaciers.

Might have to agree with you there man! Switzerland is definitely up there, I've been to Zermatt twice in summer- it's unreal there.

People give the US a bad name (for many, many reasons, most of them I agree with), but nobody can deny that's a fucking beautiful country too. Just the diversity in scenery as you drive down south is incredible - I drove from BC to Mt. Hood Oregon to Moab in Utah and I was just in awe the whole damn time.

Derbyshire, smack bang in the middle of England. I'm in the countryside which makes me a lucky one, cities aren't for me really.

Just a couple of hours from the bike parks in Wales too.
