and filming myself. i feel dumb as hell setting up a cam to film myself all the time and working my ass off trying to get recognition. i've been at it since i was 12 and now i'm 20 i'm done. im going to shred for fun. it botheres me not being invited to any events or not being able to get skis simply because of where i live. it's not my fault i have no park and don't get to travle much. my family cannot afford to help me and i can't afford it myself n it does cost alot..so for all the people saying u can make it in the industry if u r passionate enough BULLSHIT. i'm not going to leave my family to try and ski bum in an industry where people look out for themselves and thats all. i have won scwag n a pair of skis since i've been a member but in the long run thats nothing. i dont want to get people down but unless u r in the right location good luck getting out there. im not saying i am the best but w/ a little help which ive never got i could def be doing much bigger and better tricks.

here's the last video i had put together and although i will have much more progressive stuff this season im not filming. noone cares i realize this but i felt like sharing.

p.s. cutis bolduc has sponsors and isn't much better then i am(CLAIM) and has had a park to ski all the time and has the worst attitude of anyone i've met . what the fuck?

That kid Curtis is whacker than Sketchers. Don't worry Brotha. All I've ever seen him do on here is talk about how he does better tricks than everyone (namely Mike Hornbeck HA!), talk himself and his rep up. Sponsors would be moronic to put their name behind him. Plenty of kids get a free pair of skis every now and then from a company and call themselves sponsored (Curtis). Don't let that get you down. Don't forget why you started skiing in the first place. It's not always about getting recognition and making it as a pro skier in the industry. There's lots of kid out there who absolutely kill it that none of us have ever heard of. Go skiing and enjoy it for what it is.

I feel like everyone (except the lucky nasty ones) realize this sometime between 16-20. I remmber how liberating it was when i stopped caring. I immidiately got better because there was no self imposed pressure. I was like 17 or 18 at the time and now its 6 years later and I love skiing more than ever.

I totally agree. That's one of the greatest parts about freeskiing; everyone is progressing at some level, so everyone has fun. I'm not miffed that I won't be in the ski industry, but I'm still going to be incredibly stoked when I land a cork or a difficult trick.

I think however, that if you really wanted to make it big or make it at all, you have to ski bum. If you don't want to put your entire self into that goal, then you shouldnt try at all. You gotta ski every day, go to comps, train, and get recognition where people care. Take Tom Walisch. He goes to University of Utah and arranges his schedule so he can ski everyday. He gets incredibly good and starts stomping everything, then is in a position to get recognition at Park City and big resorts, and finds his way into pro skiing.

im going to be honest with you... you are really good, but look at the big name in the industry right now. they arent just real good, they are like fuckin prophicies. it takes more than being good, they have a style that looks like they were born with planks on their feet. take for example the dew tour. as sick as you are, you would not place in the top 10. its getting rediculously hard to get your name anywhere with the progression lately. i noticed this when i was 14, and im 17 now. i still have so much fun skiing and filming, and not for reassons to get my name out, because i enjoy it. i like showing friends and family what i do, and wathcing myself back on film. so dude honestly do it for the love, not such a serious approach as hittin it big

The idea that anyone can make it from anywhere is an extension of the American dream, which most people realize is crock of shit. People do succeed, and our culture is addicted to their stories, but can everyone do that? No.

Again, it must be said that simply being good does not make you worthy of being sponsored or having free product thrown at you. The whole point of sponsoring someone from a companies perspective is to increase sales, and that person must be able to to that to be worth their money.

To be worth their money, the athlete has to be able to expose the brand and promote it. If you can't travel to contests, aren't in a central hub of the sport (Colorado seems to be one right now), and don't have connections, then you aren't doing a whole lot that will get exposure, and thus not worth throwing money at from a companies perspective.

Skiing for fun is so much more rewarding, and probably a lot more enjoyable than making a career out of it. There are ski bums out there skiing much more and having a lot more fun than the pros. If you want to, there are tons of opportunities to work and ski a whole heck of a lot, many people have done it before. Graduate from high school (maybe you've already done this), get a job someplace where it snows a lot, and go shred as much as possible.

your good, but honestly theres so many kids who are better than you and arnt sponsored, and theyre not bitching about it.

oh you're the man dewd!

stop acting all butt hurt because you cant get sponsored. sorry, you are a solid skier, but not that great. also, you have the same ego as Curtis, stop acting like you should be entitled to something, you said it yourself you aren't willing to leave your family and ski bum it, thats your own personal problem, there are others out there who have the drive and dedication to leave what they know to make it in the industry.

hey east coast descruction.... that is life. plus that vid was good... but its not even close to anyone who is sponsored or anything.

your pretty good, if you were willing to move out somewhere with more opportunities like CO or the pnw you would probably be able to get a lot more going for you.

i thought it was pretty good for all the resources he had. looked like most the stuff he used he basically made himself. ur pretty good and i stopped competing because there is always someone better then you no matter what. and personally i think its a lot more fun and hey there is no pressure from spnsors or whoever your just riding for urself.

i dunno man i thought that vid was pretty sick. i bet if you got some dope switch spins and a little more solid grabs you probably could get sponsored.

this is where you went wrong... you didn't move you fucking retard. not enough money? get a job. buy a car, and drive to fucking utah. watching you bitch is almost as much torture as watching a retard cut himself because he cannot get the round block into the square hole. anyone can make it in the industry, but not you. why? you're too damned retarded to figure out how to. drop life and go out west. stop being a pussy and go where people get recognized.

just because you are sponsored doesn't mean you get new skis all the time. I ride for rossi i get one pair. my friend allen rides for line one pair of skis. friend drew rides for k2 i think he is lucky and gets 2 but i might be wrong and he only gets 1. unless you are on an am or national team you dont get much.

Just because you didn't "make it" as a pro skier doesn't mean your out of the business or industry. Stop fucking complaining because no companies picked you up on mediocre attempts at what has been done before. Be original, make an impact in your local community to gain support, and fuckin leave home.

dude shut up, skiing is fun obviously, and when you work up to a goal in your skiing and reach it, it's that much better. theres nothing wrong with a kid trying to get sponsored.

Don't worry about what other people are doing. There will always be kids who rip and are unsponsored. Skiing isn't about being sponsored. Getting sponsored is what you do when you want some support in exchange for skiing-you're basically freelancing. If you can't make it in the ski industry, fuck it man! Go skiing! Do you think our grandparents were concerned about sponsors when they were shredding unshaped 210s down glades?

your tricks are good but i think one reason for not making it was because you didnt have enough shots in an actual park at a real resort. i dont really know much about sponsors, but im pretty sure companies would like to see you in action at a real resort instead of home made jibs like you had in your video.

another thing, some people are just really lucky. i know a whole group of snowboarders at my home mountain that are sponsored that really arent good at all compared to other kids i know. but the reason why they're sponsored is because they know all the reps around the area and they ride for a guy that makes sick videos. and then there are also some kids that are sponsored not because theyre good, but because theyre individual and innovative with their tricks or style.

You wanna bitch? Do will wesson, LJ and andy parry ever bitch? Fuck no, they get some skis every year and some goggles/poles every year THATS IT. those kids slay it so much harder than any pro on rails and they are starting to get comparable on jumps and pipe and do they get shit? Fuck no. Suck it up, if you really wanna try and make it then work for a summer at a shitty job, make bank, and move out. Bitching about it on NS isn't gonna do anything. will andy and lj are all about having fun, they probably could get more sponsors and money if they tried, but they don't give a fuck. Just have fun and ski, skiing is suposse to be fun, not about getting sponsors.

for one you are pretty good. if you think that you can make it big by moving to a place like CO or UT then DO IT. theres no reason why anybody cant do it unless you have something holding you back besides money, and if you do then leave it if this means that much to you. get a job at a resort or just move, rent a place and work. its pretty easy to do.

I completely agree...I go out each and every day and try to learn something new whether it means anything or not. its just self satisfying to learn something new and push yourself. Thats what skiing should be about, and what it is about for me. Sponsers would be sweet. But you have to slay super hard all the time. Its just skiing needs to be fun for you. If your not having fun your doing the sport wrong. Today for instance. I went out. Knees KILLING ME. slid a few boxes but I realized that I was skiing and realized how much fun it was. Skiing is basically my life, regardless how good I am at it. It should be for you and you should have fun, otherwise it seems pointless. my 2 cents

haha yea lonesome pines. you should come to mt farlange and do the big air contest and rail jam. also mars hill has that jeep liberty comp that can get you down to vermont. some kid made it just by hucking a 720.

if you come to pines again this year ill see you around.

sorry for dub post but seriously guys this guy does live in the middle of nowhere.

why should he abandon his future, family, and everything he has lived for to move to utah to chance getting good?

plus i know how it is to work on this shit alone, there is like 4 people that freeski around here, and nobody ever feels like filming.

If you are committed to becoming part of the ski industry sacrifices have to be made. No one is forcing him to move to Utah, but, moving to somewhere with a scene, lots of snow and great people to ride with is going to help get him further than bitching about not getting recognition online.

Dont just jack it man! Youre pretty damn good. If you really wanna chase it head out to a ski town and find somewhere just to live and ski everyday. I was all set to go to college right after school but took a year out as a ski instructor at squaw valley and had the most fun ever!! You'll actually have an epic time and you can find a park to hit up every day. Im from Scotland and im pretty convinced im just gonna jack college next year and give it a go (for sponsorship), worst happens I fail but still have a sweet time. Lifes only what you make of it yourself mate and it sure as shit aint fair but hey...gotta roll with the hand youre delf eh!?

thank all of u guys i understand what u r all saying and i'd like to clear up i realize getting sponsored isn't everything but i do envy all those who get gear and trips covered..if i would have that covered i'd be living out west. i do ski everyday simply because i love it, not because i want a sponsor but it's a huge dream of mine but so many things could go wrong if i took a chance of going out west..i am willing to do it tho i just have no idea where to begin and i have no support from anyone.

you're pretty good, especially for the stuff that you had. shit I grew up on the east then moved out here to the PNW I know how much it sucks out there. I'm incredibly grateful for what I have and I try to make the most of it.

In my opinion the two best feelings ever are 1) powder runs, and 2) stomping a new trick. I'm 17; I have a while to go before I fall into the pit of injuries so I know I can still improve a LOT. I try to learn something new every time I get in my skis, or get better at it. I feel good when I do something well, so it's not "work" to train for competitions or anything. that's just my philosophy on getting better, so maybe you shouldn't stop trying.

In fact, if you really try, you CAN get out there. You can get hookups if you go and compete, get your name out, etc. I'm sure you've heard it all before. It's about being marketable and having a presence. You might not be able to go pro and get everything that you're talking about like helicopter trips and stuff for free, but maybe you can find a way to make it cheaper for yourself so that you can do more of what you love. that's what it's all about.

so you made a thread telling us that youre not gonna try to get sponsored anymore because youre not good enough to do so?

i really dont get it.

get a job, save up some cash and go so a summer camp, great place to get indutry connections for sure, alot of kids pick up sponsors there.
